This facility is for adult inmates.

The Grant County OR Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 205 S Humbolt St Canyon City, OR which is operated locally by the Grant County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Grant County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Canyon City Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

The mission of the Grant County Correctional Facility is to promote public safety by securely and humanely confining all those legally committed to its custody. The safety of the community, along with that of the staff and those incarcerated shall always be the foremost goal of this agency. To accomplish this staff shall be trained in and strive to maintain the highest level of professionalism in the performance of their duties.

The Grant County Correctional Facility is located in Canyon City, Oregon, which is our County seat. The facility was built in 1997 and has a capacity of 41 hard beds and the option for up to 7 temporary beds. Our daily inmate population rarely exceeds twenty inmates on average. Sgt. Josh Wolf manages the jail.

Inmates of this facility have the ability to have visitors by appointment, can make contact by and through written communications through the US Mail and also have the ability to make collect phone calls or with pre-paid phone cards purchased here at the Sheriff's office. The facility has a commissary where items can be purchased with a nominal markup in price. The commissary is used for the ongoing support of inmate programs and recreation. There is both an indoor and outdoor recreation opportunity. This includes activities such as weights, basketball, ping pong, library and television. These services are not funded with taxpayer dollars. Money can be mailed or brought to the facility and put on an inmate's account.

Inmates can be bailed by posting cash through our jail staff.

Inmate Commissary

Inmates in the Grant County Jail with money on their accounts may purchase snack food items, hygiene supplies, envelopes and postage, phone cards and other items.

To put money on an inmate's account you may;

• Bring in or mail cash, money orders, or bank cashiers checks in any amount up to $1000 dollars.
• Bring in or mail money in a personal check but the amount is limited to $20.00 per week.
• You may also send funds to up to $100 per week by sending it to gcsocontrol@gmail.com via paypal.com;

Phone Calls

Inmates have phones in their living areas that allow them to make collect call. Staff will not allow inmates to use the county's phone or deliver messages to the inmates. Inmates may also purchase phone cards to use in the jail that allows them to make non-collect calls, including calls to cell phones. Only the phone card purchased here at the jail, from the company that owns the phone system, will work with these phones. To get the calls at the lowest rate, click here.

Inmate Mail

Inmates may receive personal mail while in the Grant County Jail. Address the mail to the Inmates name at 205 S Humbolt St Canyon City, OR 97820 Inmates may not receive packages except for magazines and newspapers mailed from the publisher, and book mailed by the publisher or commercial book store.

The Grant County Jail does not provide a work-release program.

The Grant County Sheriff reserves the right to permit incarcerated inmates out on pass on rare occasion to attend a funeral, deal with a family member who may be near death, attend church services, and whatever else that might be deemed appropriate at the time.
