The Guilford County – Greensboro Detention Center is a medium-security detention center located at 201 S Edgeworth St Greensboro, NC which is operated locally by the Guilford County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Guilford County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Greensboro Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

The Guilford County Sheriff's Office, Greensboro Jail Central was constructed and occupied in 2012. The facility is podular-style construction, and direct supervision is required to manage the inmate population. The rated capacity for Greensboro Jail Central is 1032 with an average daily population of 690. The facility primarily holds pre-trial detainees but also holds a small percentage of sentenced inmates, federal inmates and inmates awaiting transfer to other jurisdictions.

Greensboro Jail Central offers rehabilitation programs such as Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous, life skills enrichment and health-related programs. Religious services are also offered to all inmates through the Chaplain Services.

Inmate Money – The public can deposit paper currency, cashier checks, or money orders into an inmate's account at the reception area of both the Greensboro and High Point facilities. Cash for inmates is accepted Monday through Friday from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm except during visitation hours and holidays. Money orders, certified or cashier checks may also be received through the mail.

Court Appearance – Inmates scheduled to appear for Superior or Federal Court may exchange the clothes they were admitted to the facility in for clothes brought by their family or friends. Hours for this exchange are: Monday ' Friday 8:00 am – 4:00 pm(except during visitation hours and holidays).

Inmate Mail – An inmate may receive letters with a full return address on the envelope. They may receive five photos (no larger than 5' by 7') per mailing. They may receive regular-sized greeting cards, without glitter on them or those with sound-generating devices. They may receive pages from the internet as long as it isn't an excessive amount or indecent. They may not receive mail that is unsanitary (with lipstick, etc) on it, newspaper clippings, pages torn from books or magazines, no drawings larger than 8 ' ' by 11', no stickers on the envelopes (other than an address label), no bookmarks, no calendars, no glued or taped items, or solicitations of any kind. You may purchase a newspaper or magazine subscription for the inmate, but you cannot leave newspapers or magazines for them or mail them yourself. No magazine subscriptions will be accepted if it is deemed to be a security risk.

Inmates may receive incoming mail Monday through Friday except on holidays. Inmates may receive newspapers and magazines (which are not considered a breach in security) and any other lawfully permitted publication which may be delivered through the U.S. Postal Service. Inmates may receive up to 5 paperback books (no hardcover books) which are shipped directly from the publisher, internet distributor or book club, as long as they are not considered a breach in security. Books that are ordered and shipped directly from bookstores will not be accepted. Materials, which are considered breaches of security, will not be allowed into any detention facility. Examples of security breaches would be items that encourage criminal activities, depict activities that could lead to physical violence or disruption, contain explicit sexual content/nudity, methods of escapes, or weapons. Items that are not allowed will be returned to the sender. Only mail that comes through the U.S. Post Office or legitimate postal service will be delivered. Mail will not be accepted by or released from the receptionist lobby area. Mail should be properly addressed and contain a return address. To ensure proper and expedient delivery, make sure the inmate's identification number is included on all correspondence. Incoming mail without a return address will be discarded or returned to the postal service. No newspaper clippings and/or posters will be accepted. Also, no greeting cards larger than 6' x 8' or cards containing 'sound generating devices' will be accepted.

All Visits at Greensboro Jail Central must be scheduled in person at the visitation kiosk or at the reception window. Visitors need to register and schedule their visit one day in advance. Visitors may visit only one time per week for at least 20 minutes.

There is NO VISITATION on MONDAY.

Visitation Policies – The visitor's name must be on the approved visitation list, which is filled out by the inmate during the intake process. Only two names may be placed on the list. The list may be revised or updated every thirty days. Any visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult unless they are legally considered an adult (emancipated). Visitors may visit only one time per week. Individuals who live more than 50 miles away from the facility where the inmate is housed and who are not on the inmate's visitor list may have a 'one time only' special visit. Inmates on suicide watch are only allowed attorney visits unless otherwise authorized by the Division Commander, Bureau Commander and medical staff. Adults and Teenagers (ages 13-17) must present at each visit a valid State issued picture ID before being allowed to visit. All visitors will be required to successfully pass through a metal detector (additional searches may be required).

Visitors will secure all personal property (purses, outerwear, diaper bags, strollers, cigarettes, lighters, cell phones, pagers, etc.) prior to being admitted to the facility for visitation. Lockers are provided in the visitor waiting area for your use. Locker rental is .50 cents. Visitors are not allowed to bring any items with them during visitation. Any visitor who attempts to provide inmates with contraband will be subject to suspension or revocation of visitation privileges. If the item attempted to be given to the inmate is a weapon, alcohol, drugs, or other contraband, criminal charges may be initiated against the visitor.

Professional visitors (attorneys, approved clergy, probation/parole, etc.) do not need to be placed on the inmate's visitation list. However, if you are related to the inmate, you will not be allowed to visit, except in accordance with the regular public visitation guidelines. Any detention facility personnel have the right to deny and/or restrict your visitation at any time for violations of policy.
