The Hamilton County TN Juvenile Detention Center is a medium to low-security detention center located at 1600 East Third St Chattanooga, TN that is operated locally by the Juvenile Justice Department and holds youths awaiting the determination of punishment for the crimes which they are accused. Most of the adolescents are here for less than two years.

The Juvenile Court of Hamilton County is the official assembly for transaction of judicial business and the administration of justice as mandated by local, state and federal law with respect to the constitution of the United States on juvenile matters. Children are referred to the Juvenile Court for reasons of delinquent, status offenses, and dependency and neglect issues. The court is now involved in much more serious cases, the seriousness of offenses is escalating and the age of the offender is dropping often to below the age of ten. Because of this, the court has developed operations to insure that procedures represent the best interest of the child, family and community. Habilitation and rehabilitation of youth and preservation of the family unit remain the philosophical goal of the Hamilton County Juvenile Court.

The Child Support Division of the Juvenile Court hears Petitions which deal with issues involving the establishment of parentage, setting of child support and contempt proceedings. There are three full-time Magistrates assigned to this division by the Presiding Judge of Juvenile Court, along with additional Court personnel and clerk staff. The Court also hears actions involving collection of support for children who have been placed in State custody. This division of the Court operates under Federal Regulation and a contract with the State of Tennessee to provide the staff necessary to manage an ever-growing caseload. The Court works along with the local child support office, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department, CCA Silverdale and other local agencies to set, collect, enforce and distribute child support to thousands of families. The Court hears a large percentage of all child support cases in the County and is responsible for collection of several million dollars annually for Hamilton County children.
