The Hennepin County Public Safety Facility (PSF) is a medium-security detention center located at 401 S 4th Ave Minneapolis, MN which is operated locally by the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Hennepin County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Minneapolis Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

Visiting Hours:
Saturday: 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Sunday: 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
Wednesday: 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Official visiting hours for police and attorneys
Police and attorneys can visit the jail at any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Visiting guidelines
- The Public Safety Facility and the City Hall building form the Adult Detention Division and are secure detention facilities. Bringing contraband into either building is strictly prohibited. Violators will be prosecuted.
- You need to follow all directions given by the security staff.
- Social visits are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
- Access to a social visit is a privilege for inmates and guests.
- Inmates are limited to 2 social visits per each visiting day offered, no exceptions.
- Arrive early to better your opportunity at a social visit and to avoid delays.
- All visitors must dress appropriately. Revealing clothing will not be permitted.
- All visitors who display clear signs of illness shall not be admitted.
- All visitors, including children, must be on an inmates visiting list and pre-approved prior to entrance.
- Visitors under 18 years of age must come with a parent or legal guardian.
- Any visitor under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be denied a visit and asked to leave the facility.
- All visitors must walk through a metal detector before entry.
- Be prepared to secure any and all personal items deemed contraband by the facility prior to the social visit.
- No purses, bags, cellphones/electronics, jackets, guns, knives, mace/pepper spray, nail clippers and files, tweezers, razors, scissors, box cutters, knitting needles, tobacco, food and/or beverage or any item deemed a security threat will be allowed into the facility.
- Have a valid government identification ready to present at the visiting desk.
- All social visits will be held in a secured visiting area.No physical contact will occur between visitors and inmates.
- Every attempt will be made to provide you with a 20 minute social visit however your visit may be shortened with our without notice.
- Visiting passes will not be issued during the last 15 minutes of the visiting time.
- The jail reserves the right to discontinue or shorten a social visiting session with our without notice.
- Any violation of visiting rules could result in immediate termination of your current visit and may impact future visiting privileges.
- Any visitor who is unwilling or unable to comply with visiting guidelines will not be allowed entrance into the secure detention area.
