ID DOC – Idaho Maximum Security Institution (IMSI) basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 208-338-1635
This facility is for adult inmates.
The inmates housed at Idaho Maximum-IMSI located at 13400 S Pleasant Valley Rd in Kuna, ID are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
IMSI opened in November 1989 to confine Idaho's most disruptive male state inmates. It has a capacity of 549 inmates and located within a double perimeter fence reinforced with razor wire and an electronic detection system and is adjacent to the Idaho State Correctional Center and the Correctional Alternative Placement Program. The population is primarily comprised of close custody and administrative segregation inmates. IMSI also operates the state Secure Mental Health Facility, houses inmates under the sentence of death, and inmates who are civil commitments.
