The inmates housed at Lawrence Correctional located at 10940 Lawrence Rd in Sumner, IL are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. About IL DOC – Lawrence Correctional Center:
Lawrence Correctional Center is a medium security adult male facility located in southeastern Illinois. The facility consists of 16 buildings, which comprise more than 364,000 square feet that can house up to 2,458 adult males. The Center occupies of approximately 56 acres on a 160-acre site. The eight housing units are T-design with a segregation unit and health care unit. The warehouse, mailroom, vehicle maintenance, and maintenance departments are located outside the perimeter fence, which assists in the safety and security of the facility.
The facility is ADA (American Disabilities Act) approved and houses several ADA offenders. This prison emphasizes rehabilitation by providing high-quality programs, work opportunities, and leisure activities.
Vocational skills taught at Lawrence Correctional Center include culinary arts, print shop, and custodial maintenance. Inmates can also receive substance abuse treatment, and participate in re-entry programs that help prepare the offender for release.

IL DOC – Lawrence Correctional Center – Visitation
General Population
8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. seven (7) days a week. Offenders are permitted six (6) visits per month, with no more than two (2) on weekends or holidays.
All visits will be unlimited in length; however, should overcrowding occur, time limits will be established so all visits may be accommodated.
Segregation/Non-Contact Restriction
Daily 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. seven (7) days a week. Offenders are permitted two (2) visits per month; however, only one (1) per month is permitted on a weekend.
Visitors will be processed beginning at 8:00 a.m. No visitors will be processed after 1 p.m. Segregation offender visits are limited to one (1) hour. Please refer to attached Visiting Rules and Regulations for additional visiting information.
Administrative Detention
Daily 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. seven (7) days a week. Visitors will be processed beginning at 8:00 a.m. No visitors will be processed after 1 p.m.
Phase I – Two 1-hour visits per month (non-contact). Phase I offenders will not be afforded split visits.
Phase II – Three 2-hour visits per month (non-contact).
Phase III – Five 2-hour visits per month (with Meet & Greet as security measures allow).
Phase II and Phase III offenders will be allowed two adult visitors at a time. A split visit will count as two visits.
