The inmates housed at Peoria Transition located at 607-613 N Main St in Peoria, IL are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
About IL DOC – Peoria Adult Transition Center:
The primary mission of the Peoria Adult Transition Center is to provide supervision, sanctions, reintegration programs and service to resident offenders. Peoria ATC is committed to maximizing the ability of offenders to be self-sufficient law, abiding citizens when they leave.
Peoria ATC is housed in one building in downtown Peoria. At approximately 48,000 square feet, it contains 248 beds in dorm-type rooms with 6 to 12 residents per room. The facility is located on the bus route amid restaurants, the Civic Center and several hotels, which employ the Peoria ATC residents.

Visitors to any correctional facility will be required to produce photo identification and verification of date of birth. Please be sure to bring 2 forms of identification with you; these would include a current photo ID such as a driver’s license, a state ID card, government ID card, military ID/driver’s license, or acceptable documentation of non-U.S. citizenship including a current Passport, or Visa, documentation must contain the visitor’s date of birth. Expired forms of identification will not be accepted. Visitors will also be required to provide vehicle information and other pertinent data, such as government identification, official credentials, attorney registration, and or law student certification.
