IL DOC – Southwestern Illinois Correctional Center basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 618-394-2200

This facility is for adult inmates.

The inmates housed at Southwestern IL Correctional located at 950 Kingshighway St in East St. Louis, IL are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

About IL DOC – Southwestern Illinois Correctional Center:

The Mission of Southwestern Illinois Correctional Center (SWICC) is to protect the public from criminal offenders through a system of incarceration while providing a safe and secure environment for offenders, as well as programs and services which are designed to assist them in successful re-entry into the free community. SWICC is a totally dedicated substance abuse treatment community. Each department participates in the offender recovery process by evaluating and assessing the performance of the offenders under its direction. All offenders housed at SWICC attend substance abuse treatment groups five days per week for a minimum of 15 hours per week.

SWICC consists of a total of 19 buildings, which comprise more than 195,214 square feet. The living units consist of four dorm-style housing units, the Work Camp, one 8-bed segregation unit and a 6-bed health care unit. The facility sits on a 24-acre site, with 22 acres being enclosed by fencing that can house 731 inmates. This facility also presides over Southwestern Illinois Work Camp. SWICC has a 91-bed Work Camp on-site, which provides community service to government and non-profit groups within a 45-mile radius of the institution. The Work Camp offenders also actively participate in substance abuse treatment groups. One of the primary roles of this facility is to prepare inmates for re-entry into society, this is achieved by providing programs and services that give the inmates new skills and lay a foundation for the inmates to use upon release.

Offenders incarcerated at Southwestern Illinois Correctional Center can take educational courses that prepare inmates for the GED, and they can even earn a GED. Vocational courses taught at this prison include warehousing, construction, business management, horticulture, and commercial custodial maintenance. Other programs at this institution include parenting and fatherhood classes, anger management and domestic violence counseling, substance abuse treatment and 12 step group programs.
