The inmates housed at Taylorville Correctional located at 1144 Illinois Route 29 in Taylorville, IL are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

General Population
8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. seven (7) days a week. Offenders are permitted seven (7) visits per month, with no more than three (3) on weekends or state holidays.  Visitors must arrive no later than 6:00 p.m.

5-hour time limit on visits; visits may be terminated prior to the five-hour time limit if overcrowding occurs.

Orientation Inmates cannot receive visitors from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm Monday through Wednesday

Rules for Segregation
Segregation offenders are allowed two, one hour, no contact visits per calendar month. Visitors must arrive no later than 1:00 p.m. No weekend or state holiday visits permitted.

Rules for C Grade
Offenders in C Grade may receive visits from 8:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. No weekend or state holiday visits permitted.

Note: Shift Change is at 3:00 p.m.  Visitors are not allowed to come into the reception area from 2:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.

VISITING PROCEDURES: 

• No visitor will be admitted to the facility unless they are on the inmates approved visiting list or approved by the Warden. Inmates are limited to 1 visit per day. 
• On the first visit to any correctional facility, the visitors will be required to have two (2) valid forms of ID, one (1) must be a photo identification, such as a driver's license, a state identification card, or acceptable documentation of non-US citizen including a current passport, visa, and documentation that includes their date of birth. 
• Following the initial visit, adult visitors are required to have 1 valid forms of ID – MUST be a Picture ID which indicates visitors birthdate: State ID, Military ID, Passport, FOID card, Health Insurance Card. NO credit cards, store cards or mail. 
• Orientation Inmates cannot receive visitors from 8:30 am – 4:00 pm Monday through Wednesday. 
• If a visitor can not clear the metal detector due to medical reasons, it is preferred they provide a medical card indicating such. 
• Inmates are permitted 7 visits per month in addition to official attorney visits, with no more than 3 on weekends or State Holidays. Visiting hours are 8:30 am – 7:00 pm (visits must be processed by 6 pm), with a 5-hour time limit on visits. If severe overcrowding occurs, the visit may be shortened to 2 hours. Inmates will be restricted to 3 adults at any one time with no limitation placed on the number of children. Persons under 17 need not be on the approved list but must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Written, notarized, permission must be received and approved by the Warden prior to visiting if someone other than the parent or guardian is bringing the child(ren) to visit. Written consent must include the child’s name and date of birth, Parent/guardian name and address (phone number if available), Name of person(s) who are authorized to bring the child in to visit, Inmate’s name and number. Orientation inmates may receive visits after 4 pm on Monday – Thursday. 
• Any potential visitor with a felony conviction or is currently on probation/parole, must have prior written approval by the warden. 
• Inmates and visitors are not allowed to exchange property during a visit. Literary material may be brought into the institution by an inmate’s visit and left at the Reception desk. (Magazines, books, newspapers only – no more than 5) 
• Any item that needs to be brought in for review with an inmate or requiring the inmate’s signature or notary must get approval from the Warden prior to the visit. 
• No pets. 
• Vehicle doors must be locked, windows rolled up. Vehicles not secured will not be allowed to remain on grounds. No loitering on grounds. 
• No photographs are allowed to be taken of the institution or on grounds at any time. 
• Please note: Shift Change is at 3 pm. Visitors are not allowed to come into the reception area from 2:30 pm – 3:15 pm. 
VISITOR DRESS CODE: APPLIES TO MALES, FEMALES. CHILDREN AND INFANTS: 
• No snap/break-away pants 
• No spandex, stretch pants, jeggings, leggings or tight fitting pants 
• No hooded shirts, sweaters, or sweatshirts allowed 
• No tank tops, tube tops, halter tops, spaghetti straps or midriffs. 
• No swimsuits 
• No holes in pants above the knees. (If pants are frayed, ensure no skin or underwear are visible) 
• No shorts or skirts that button, zip or have slits all the way down 
• No front full zippered tops 
• No deep “V” neck or scoop neck tops showing cleavage 
• Nothing sexually explicit or see through 
• Sleeveless shirts may only be worn under an appropriate outer garment that is not see-through. If the outer garment is removed in the visiting room, the visit will be terminated 
• Appropriate undergarments are to be worn, bras and panties must not be visible 
• Obvious gang related clothing not allowed 
• Skirts, dresses and shorts must by knee length or longer 
• No sunglasses, combs, or picks permitted 
• No scarves 
• No umbrellas 
• No jackets, coats, hats or cold weather gear to be worn in visiting room, items must be put in a locker 
• No wearing pants below the waist commonly known as “sagging” or “bagging” 
• Infants and children wearing dresses must have shorts underneath PARENTS WITH BABIES ARE ALLOWED TO BRING IN: 
• 5 diapers – babies must have their diaper changed (and thrown away) in front of Correctional Officer in the shakedown room prior to entry. 
• 2 bottles, clear, plastic – these must be made in front of the Correctional Officer from sealed containers of water and formula. Mothers who are breast feeding may do so in the ladies room or get approval from the warden to bring in breast milk in pre made bottles. 
• Sippy cup – empty, Pacifier, Bib 
• 1 Receiving style blankets – no quilts or comforters 
• Baby wipes in a zip lock bag or clear pack. No hard plastic containers 
• Baby food must be in a sealed container. Glass containers must be transferred to a plastic container (provided by the visitor) in front of the Correctional Officer 
• Baby spoon – no metal handle 
• Diaper bags, car seats, strollers, infant carriers are not allowed. 
VISITS WITH INMATES IN SEGREGATION AND ON C GRADE: 
• Visits with inmates in segregation, investigative status or temporary confinement shall be non-contact visits. 
• Seg inmates may receive 2 visits per calendar month 
• Visits with seg inmates shall be no longer that 1 hour and are allowed 5 days per week between the hours of 8:30 am and 2:00 pm. Visitors must be here by 1 pm and will terminate at 2 pm – no exceptions. No weekend or holiday visits are allowed. 
• Offenders in C grade may receive visits Monday – Friday only during regular visiting hours. NO weekend visits. V
ENDOR SPECIFIC DEBIT CARDS FOR USE IN VISITING ROOM 
• Require a $5.00 bill for the purchase. Nothing else will work. The card will come out with a $3.00 credit on it and will hold an additional $37.00. No change can be given, you must have these 2 exact amounts. ( you may put less money on the card but a $5 bill is required for the purchase of the card) 
• What you put on the card, stays on the card. NO REFUNDS. 
• What you buy the inmate in the visiting room must be eaten in the visiting room. Inmates are not allowed to take food back to the house with them. 
• You will reuse the same card each visit and add more money each time. Only one card per adult. 
• The only items that you are allowed to have are your ID’s, car keys, baby items, Debit Card for visiting room and no more than $40 to be placed on Debit Card. All other items including purses, excess money, etc. must be returned to your vehicle.
