The Jackson County Youth Center is a medium to low-security detention center located at 930 Fleming Ave Jackson, MI that is operated locally by the Juvenile Justice Department and holds youths awaiting the determination of punishment for the crimes which they are accused. Most of the adolescents are here for less than two years.

The Youth Center is a 50-bed juvenile facility that caters to the needs of court-involved delinquents. We are part of the Circuit Court Family Division within county government. The Jackson County Youth Center houses two programs: Detention and the Residential Treatment Program.

The Jackson County Youth Center (JCYC) operates a 24-bed juvenile detention unit which houses juvenile offenders who are involved in the criminal court system and have been ordered by the Jackson County Circuit-Family-Probate Court. The unit has an average length of stay between15 and 20 days with an average daily population of around 21.

The unit is one component of the Youth Center and strictly adheres to the Mission and Vision statements of the Center. While detained on the unit youth are provided a safe, supportive, and structured environment while in our care. All residents are closely monitored 24 hours a day by our highly professional staff.

Detention Services

• Within 7 days of admittance, residents are given a physical and receive standard immunizations if required. Medical services are provided by Center for Family Health
• Dental services are available monthly through Mobil Medical Support.
• Counseling services are provided in-house by Integro.
• The Intermediate School District provides general education, youth go to school year round.
• Non-denominational Bible Study is available for those residents that are interested in their spiritual growth.

VISITATION POLICY RESIDENTIAL TREATMENT PROGRAM

1. Only parents, stepparents, legal guardians or grandparents are permitted to visit. All other visitors must be cleared through the Residential Treatment Supervisor or Director before they visit. Shift Supervisor may have discretion in special cases.

2. Regular visiting hours are twice a week, every Tuesday and Thursday, 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (It is expected that parents will have participated in parenting classes prior to visitation.) Exceptions to the above must be authorized by the Residential Treatment Supervisor, Director or Shift Supervisor. A. Family Night will be held monthly at which time siblings may attend with approval from the Residential Treatment Supervisor.

3. Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and the resident's birthday, are designated holidays when parents will be permitted additional visits.

4. Visitors may be asked to produce identification and/or be subject to a search. Further, all visitors will be required to successfully pass through the metal detector.

5. A copy of Visitation Rules for the Residential Unit will be provided to every family.

6. General visiting expectations:

• A. There is no smoking anywhere in the Youth Center.
• B. Food, beverages, or other contraband may not be brought to the residents of the Youth Center.
• C. Residents must stay in the visitation area to which they have been assigned. Leaving the visitation area for any reason will conclude the visit.
• D. Parent/Resident should report all poor visits, bad news, or significant information to the Residential Treatment Supervisor, Director or Shift Supervisor.
• E. Parents and residents should not carry on conversations with other families. F. Students may not send out (or receive) mail through visitation.
• G. The student is to return promptly to the dayroom area when visitation is over.
• H. No cell phones permitted in the visiting area.
• I. No cameras and/or purses.

7. Visitors shall work with Youth Center staff to ensure that their attendance is recorded.

8. Residential Treatment Supervisor, Director or Shift Supervisor will document and follow up on any poor visits, bad news, or significant information reports.

9. Abuse of the visitation privileges, by either parent or resident, may result in the loss of visitation privileges.

10. The Youth Center reserves the right to refuse visitation for any necessary reason at any time, including suspicion of use of alcohol or drugs.

11. Following visitation the student will receive a full body search, and have their possessions searched when leaving visitation and entering the unit.
