This facility is for adult inmates.
The Jefferson County MO Detention Center is a medium-security detention center located at 510 1st St Hillsboro, MO which is operated locally by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Jefferson County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Hillsboro Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
Inmate Mail Procedure – Money orders, personal checks/cash for commissary deposit are not accepted through the mail. You may send outgoing mail as often as you wish, provided your letters do not violate regulations of the United States Post Office or the safe and secure operations of the Jefferson County Detention Center. You are required to include your full name and return address on outgoing mail. Failure to do so will result in the mail being returned to you for correction. Detainee Property – The Jefferson County Detention Center will not retain personal property longer than five (72) hours following your release/transfer. Personal property that will not be accepted based on the rules of the facility a detainee is being transferred to, should be released using a completed Property Release Form, prior to transfer. After 72 hours following release/transfer, unclaimed property is considered abandoned and will be disposed of accordingly. Detention staff is not responsible for any damage to, or loss of, personal detainee property.

All visits are limited to 30 minutes. You ARE NOT guaranteed 30 minutes per visit. Visits can be cut short or cancelled at the Staff’s discretion. Visitors are limited to three (3) persons per inmate. Inmates are only allowed (2) visits per week with Monday as the starting day of the week.
Visiting an Inmate
Certain restrictions apply to those who may visit.
Visitors must be 17 years of age or older, or accompanied by an adult.
Visitors must have a valid State/government-issued identification, which has a photograph. The following are acceptable: driver’s license, Missouri State ID, Military ID, or passport.
Persons without a photo ID will not be admitted.
Visitors must wear appropriate clothing. Low-cut blouses, mini-skirts, short shorts and transparent or sheer clothing are strictly prohibited.
Male visitors must wear shirt with sleeves. No “muscle shirts” allowed.
Footwear is mandatory.
Smoking, eating or drinking are prohibited in the building or visiting area.
Contraband left for a Detainees by a visitor will result in possible criminal charges for the person involved. In the event a visitor wants to deposit money into your Detainees account they may do so at the kiosk located in the lobby on the second-floor building.
Visitation Rules and Regulations are as follows:
No smoking will be allowed by any inmate or visitor while in the visiting room.
Only three (3) visitors at a time per inmate will be allowed in the visiting room.
Recklessly, intentionally, or maliciously destroying, or tampering with County Property will generally result in prosecution.
No person who appears to be intoxicated or under the influence of drugs or narcotics will be permitted in the visiting room.
A warrant check is done on all visitors. A visitor with an outstanding warrant will not be permitted to visit and is subject to arrest.
No visitor under the authority of Probation or Parole will be permitted to visit.
No visitor will record or photograph the visitation area, the inmate, or any part thereof.
Any violation of the rules of visitation will result in immediate termination of the visit, and detainees may be subject to disciplinary procedures. Visitors who violate rules and regulations shall be subject to denial of access to future visits and criminal prosecution for any associated law violation.
There is no right to privacy during non-attorney visitation. Your visitation period is recorded and may be monitored.
Contact Visits
Contact visits are limited to privileged and professional visitors. Privileged visits are those visits by an attorney, law enforcement, prosecutors, etc.
Professional visits are limited to clergy, psychologist, medical, etc. and should be pre-arranged and approved by the Jail Commander. Professional visits are generally limited to Monday through Friday during regular business hours unless a documented, unusual need exists.
Professional visits from members of the clergy are coordinated and approved by the Jail Commander or designee.
Detainees on Administrative Segregation (Protective Custody) must have prior approval for the visit. These visits must be scheduled at a time which fits into the operational schedule of the facility. The detainee may receive one visit per week for up to 30 min. All other rules for Visitation apply. The request for visit may be submitted by email to wmcdaniel@jeffcomo.org or by the detainee through a Special Visit Request. The request must include the date and indicate if mid-day or evening would be more convenient.
