Kalamazoo County MI Jail basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 269-385-6173
This facility is for adult inmates.
The Kalamazoo County MI Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 1500 Lamont St Kalamazoo, MI which is operated locally by the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Kalamazoo County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Kalamazoo Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
The Jail Division maintains all functions related to Jail and Inmate management. The jail regularly supervises over 400 inmates. All inmates are processed by deputies in Receiving, where they are fingerprinted, photographed and classified for placement in the jail.
The jail offers several programs including education, rehabilitation, mental health, ministry, and health care. Inmate work crews are employed throughout the county to help with many public works projects.
The Transport Section moves inmates to and from their court appearances, transports sentenced felons to prison and picks up persons being held in other jails on outstanding Kalamazoo County warrants.
KALAMAZOO COUNTY JAIL INMATE GUIDE BOOK
Inmates in the Kalamazoo County Jail have the ability to purchase personal care products, undergarments, stationery, stamps and food/snack items for personal use. Inmates are permitted to purchase up to fifty (50) dollars worth of commissary items weekly.
Inmates will only draw from their own accounts. Inmates will not be allowed to transfer funds from their account to another inmate's account.
Inmates who are on restriction or housed in a disciplinary segregation unit will only be allowed to order hygiene items, paper, envelopes, stamps, and writing utensils.
This facility's inmate phone system is provided by Telmate. Only inmates may initiate phone calls. If you wish to contact an inmate, your options are to call and leave the inmate a voicemail (up to 3 minutes), write a letter, or visit the inmate during official visitation hours.
Phone Calls – To call you, an inmate simply dials your phone number. When receiving a call, you should first hear an announcement from an automated voice, such as "You are receiving a call from [inmate name], an inmate at [facility name]. Press one (1) to accept."
If the inmate has no calling funds, and is calling you for the first time, the call will be free for a brief period of time (often less than a minute). This is to allow the inmate to inform you of where he or she is, and to explain how calls work from this facility. After this short call, the inmate will be placed on hold and you will be presented the opportunity to:
- Pay (via credit card) to continue the current call
- Deposit funds for the inmate to continue your call and, if there is money remaining, the inmate may use the funds to make future calls to any number.
- Deposit funds to your own phone number to continue your call and, if there is money remaining, the inmate may use the funds to call your number in the future, but the funds will not be available for calling other numbers.
