This facility is for adult inmates.

The Kendall County IL Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 1102 Cornell Ln Yorkville, IL which is operated locally by the Kendall County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Kendall County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Yorkville Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.

The Corrections Division of the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office is comprised of two special areas. The largest section is the County Jail, the other is Inmate Transportation. The Corrections Division currently has 42 Deputies assigned to the Division.

KENDALL COUNTY JAIL
The Kendall County Jail provides for the custody of individuals awaiting trial, serving sentences up to one year, or sentenced to periodic imprisonment. The Kendall County Jail was opened in 1992 with a capacity of 60 beds. In 2000, the Jail was renovated and an additional 24 beds were added. In late 2005, a new wing was constructed and 119 beds were added to the jail creating a new jail capacity of 203 beds.

JAIL TRANSPORTATION
The Transportation Team is responsible for transporting Inmates to and from Court, other Jails, and Medical Facilities.

Mail Procedures

All incoming and outgoing non-privilege inmate mail must be received and processed through the United States Postal Service. All incoming mail shall be opened and inspected for any type of monetary funds or contraband. All gummed areas, stickers, tape or metal will be removed before delivery to the inmate.

Incoming mail with an unknown recipient will be returned to sender.

All incoming mail must have a valid return address written on it. If mail is received with no return address, the mail will be forwarded to the address that the inmate provided during the intake process.

Mail that contains items not allowed in the facility will be returned to sender. If the sender is unknown, the mail will be forwarded to the address we have on file in the booking records.

Mail containing but not limited to violence, gang signs, gang or criminal activity, graffiti, nudity (full or partial), provocative photos that can be construed as sexual in nature, laminated objects, internet mail with screen names or email addresses, stamps, items drawn in crayon or contain a foreign substance such as glitter, lipstick or perfume, envelopes, stationery, calling cards, magazines or clippings, newspapers or clippings, photocopies of books or any metal object will be returned to sender and notification of the mail denial given to the inmate.

Mail delivered “postage due” and will not be accepted and returned to sender.

Box packages will not be accepted for inmates with the exception of packages from a book publisher or distributor, that contain books for the inmate book program.

Subscriptions (magazines, newspapers, etc.) are not allowed.

Legal Mail will be opened in front of the inmate and checked for contraband. Legal mail is mail sent in from:

• Federal or Illinois legislators, Judges of any court, Attorney General of the United States or State of Illinois, Director of Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Governor of the State of Illinois
• The Director, Chiefs, Deputy Directors or Assistant Deputy Director (s) of the Illinois Department of Corrections, Chief of the Illinois Jail and Detention Standards Unit of the Illinois Department of Corrections, members of the Illinois Prison Review Board and county sheriff’s
• Illinois Inspector General
• Clerks of the Courts or the Illinois Court of Claims
• John Howard Association.
• Registered attorneys
• Any organization that provides direct legal representation to detainees, not including organizations which provide referrals to attorneys.
• Mutual Ground regarding PREA complaints.

Books

Books are permitted with the following restrictions:

• Books must be new and sent from a publisher, book store or distribution center with no writing or personal markings. Used books will not be accepted.
• All books must be paperback or soft cover.
• Any books with illegal or explicit content whereas the subjects are partially nude, nude, in sexually suggestive poses or when the images depict sexual acts will be considered unacceptable and not allowed in. Depictions of men will not show exposed genitalia or buttocks. Depictions of women will not show exposed genitalia, buttocks or breast.
• Books written that could be labeled as erotica are unacceptable and not allowed in.
• Any books pertaining to gangs, inciting violence, riots or to undermine or overthrow facility staff or the Government are unacceptable and not allowed in.
• Books that can be purchased off the commissary, with the exception of religious books, are unacceptable and not allowed in. Items include puzzle or crossword books.
• All books that are not approved, will be forwarded to the address we have on file for in the inmate booking records.
• All books are subject to search and may be denied for any reason deemed necessary for safety and security reasons.
• Inmates may only have up to four (4) books at a time. Once they have had the opportunity to read the item, they may either:
  1. Donate the book(s) to the Kendall County Inmate Library for others to have a chance to read.
  2. Mail the excess books out at their own expense. Inmates who cannot afford to mail the excess books out will have the books donated to the inmate library if they meet the requirements.

• Inmates may have up to three (3) religious books with them and not be included in the four (4) allowed books.
• Anytime mail or a book is denied, the sender may appeal the denial within twenty (20) days of the posted date of the denial notification. The appeal is to be made in writing to the Corrections Commander or designee.

Kendall County IL Jail – Visitation

Off-site video visitation that takes place outside of the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, will be allowed every day during the week. Visits are unlimited to the inmate as long as scheduling permits and they are not back to back.

Visitation times on these days will be;

8:00am – 12:00pm
1:00pm – 5:00pm
7:00pm – 11:00pm

On-site video visitation that takes place in the lobby of the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office will be allowed 2 times per week, with visits that last 20 minutes, at no cost to the visitor. Each visit can include two (2) registered adult visitors, Monday – Thursday and on Sunday.

Visitation times on these days will be;

10:00am – 12:00pm
2:00pm – 4:30pm
7:00pm – 9:00pm

All video visits, both on and off-site, must be scheduled and approved in advance prior to the visit.

Inmate Visitation Rules

All inmate visitation with friends and family will be done via video visitation. Both visitor and inmate are expected to conduct themselves in an appropriate fashion at all times during a video visit.

All visits must be scheduled and approved in advance prior to the visit. Inmates who are named as a restrained person in any restraining or other valid court order shall not be allowed visits from persons who are protected by the order.

Kendall County reserves the right to deny, cancel or terminate a video visit prior to or during a visitation session based on visitor or inmate misconduct. Kendall County also reserves the right to restrict visitors from participating in all future use of the video visitation system.

Visitation may be canceled or altered at any time in the event of an emergency, unusual occurrence and extenuating circumstances or deemed necessary by the Corrections Commander or designee.

ALL VIDEO VISITS ARE RECORDED AND SUBJECT TO ELECTRONIC MONITORING. YOUR USE OF THE VIDEO VISITATION SYSTEM CONSTITUTES CONSENT TO RECORDING AND MONITORING.

The following conduct is prohibited;

• Any display of nudity, full or partial, including breastfeeding, tight-fitting or provocative clothing.
• Any inappropriate behavior or actions that are sexual in nature.
• Use or display of any weapons, drugs, alcohol, or related paraphernalia.
• Activity or display of graphics/paraphernalia associated with any Security Threat Group or Gang.
• Unlawful activity or depiction of unlawful activity.
• Recording, filming or photographing a visit by any participant.

Any violations of prohibited conduct by the inmate or visitor may result with all future visitations being suspended for an amount of time determined by the Sheriff’s Office.

All visitors must be eighteen (18) years of age or older unless accompanied by a parent/guardian. The parent/guardian must remain in the visiting booth for onsite visits or physically present for remote visits or, the visit will be terminated.

At least one (1) visit per week per inmate shall be allowed, except when an individual inmate has been assessed a disciplinary penalty for a violation of a rule or regulation.

Inmates may refuse to visit with a particular individual.

Contact visits are not allowed.

Attorney video visits will not be recorded or monitored.

Any issues with visitation billing will be addressed by Securus.

Video Visitation hours and rules

Video Visitation The Kendall County Adult Detention Facility has Video Visitation; we no longer allow face to face visits or contact visits. (As of August 21, 2017)

1. All visitors whether visiting on-site or remotely must register 24 hours in advance in order to be allowed to visit.

2. Remote visitors must be approved by the facility before visitors can schedule a video visit.

3. The person registering for a visit whether remotely or on-site must be present (on the video visit) at the time of the visit.

4. All visitors may register by going to Securustech.net/videovisitation for both remote and on-site visits. There is a fee associated with remote visits.

6. The jail has on-site visits available Monday thru Thursday and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. thru 12:00 pm, 2:00 p.m. thru 4:30 p.m., 7:00 p.m. thru 9:00 p.m. Detainees are allowed two (2) twenty (20) minute on-site visits a week. Each visit can include two (2) registered adult visitors. The week starts on Sunday. Offsite visits can be scheduled seven (7) days a week from 8:00 a.m. thru 12:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m. thru 5:00 p.m., 7:00p.m. thru 11:00 p.m. There is no limit on the number of offsite visits; they cannot, however, be scheduled back to back.

7. All visitors must be eighteen (18) years of age or older unless accompanied by a parent/guardian. The parent/guardian must remain in the visiting booth or physically present for remote visits or the visit will be terminated.

8. All on-site visitors should report ten (10) minutes before the scheduled visit. If the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office is closed please press the call box in the front vestibule and staff will get you in for your visit.

9. On-site visitors must have a photo I.D. issued by the state, at the time of the visit.

10. All on-site visitors’ personal property except for car keys must be left in their car. No cell phones, hats, bags, purses, recording devices, etc. are allowed in the Public Safety Center. Failure to do so will result in items being confiscated or your visit being terminated.

11 . All visits are monitored and recorded. Visiting privileges can be restricted or revoked when either the detainee or visitor violates visitation rules or the facility rules.
