The Livingston County KY Jail is a medium-security detention center located at PO Box 91 Smithland, KY which is operated locally by the Livingston County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Livingston County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Smithland Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
The Livingston County Jail was closed due to budgetary reasons and new state regulations on May 16, 2005. All persons arrested in Livingston County are housed at the McCracken County Jail and transported to the Livingston County Courthouse by Livingston County Jail staff.
