This facility is for adult inmates.
The Los Alamos County Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 2500 Trinity Dr Los Alamos, NM which is operated locally by the Los Alamos County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Los Alamos County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Los Alamos Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
The facility is designed for the safety and well being of both inmates and detention officers. The movement and management of inmates takes place in a master control center area where detention officers conduct video, audio and visual monitoring of inmates and all jail activities through state of the art electronic security access systems. The master control center officers are also responsible for monitoring all of the internal and external security systems for the detention center, the police station, and the new court complex.
Three nutritious meals are prepared daily in the detention center, lowering meal cost by approximately 50% as compared to previous food service contract rates.
The Los Alamos Police Department Detention Center manages the intake, care, containment, transportation, and release of inmates. The detention center is staffed by 16 full-time detention officers.
