The Los Angeles Co Jail-Central Juvenile Hall is a medium to low-security detention center located at 1605 Eastlake Ave Los Angeles, CA that is operated locally by the Juvenile Justice Department and holds youths awaiting the determination of punishment for the crimes which they are accused. Most of the adolescents are here for less than two years.
Upon arrival at Juvenile Hall, the Admissions Intake officer shall notify IDC who will then come and interview the law enforcement agency that is bringing the minor in. IDC officer will make an assessment and determine if the minor is going to be detained or released on house arrest or release on a citation. The IDC officer will conduct an interview with the minor and contact the minor’s parent/legal guardian to inform their child is at Juvenile Hall. If he/she is detained, the parent is informed visiting hours, and future court appearance.

After receiving the okay to book from IDC, but before taking the minor into the holding area, the juvenile hall staff will do a preliminary interview with the minor asking if he/she has any injuries that we should be aware of. The minor will then be brought into the holding area where he/she will be Live Scanned if this has not already been done by the detaining agency. The minor is then showered, and changed into proper juvenile hall attire, and their personal clothes & property will be turned into the juvenile hall property room. After showering, the minor will then be thoroughly interviewed for any potential medical, physical, or psychological issues that might need to be addressed for his/her proper care. The minor is then moved to the Medical Unit where they will be assessed by medical staff as to their readiness to be admitted into juvenile hall. After being cleared by medical staff, the minor is sent to the receiving unit. The minor will then receive orientation to the facility and have a mental health screening.
