The Lucas County Holding Facility is a medium-security detention center located at 48559 Hy Vee Rd Chariton, IA which is operated locally by the Lucas County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Lucas County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Chariton Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
Inmates are held up to 24 hours and, if not released, will be transported to be held in another county. If you have mittimus time to serve, you must come to the Sheriff's Office and sign Housing & Restitution paperwork, prior to serving your time. At that time, you will be given further instructions on how to set up your service in another county.
