This facility is for adult inmates.
The Mackinac County Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 100 S Marley St St. Ignace, MI which is operated locally by the Mackinac County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Mackinac County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the St. Ignace Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
Inmate Phone Services
The Mackinac County Jail uses the services of Securus Telephone Services. Family and friends of inmates in the jail may leave money for the inmate to purchase telephone calling cards from the jail commissary. Inmate phone service through Securus. Items Left for Inmates
You may leave the following items:
- Cash money for the commissary, work release or housing/medical expenses or bond.
- New White underwear, new white socks, new white T-shirts. No old or soiled clothing.
- New White sports bra’s (no underwire), You may leave street clothing for when the inmate is released if there is storage space available. These items will remain in the inmate’s property locker.
- Books and board games must be sent via US Mail.
- Magazines and newspapers must be sent via their publisher
All other items may be purchased from the inmate commissary.
Mackinac County Jail reserves the right to not allow items that may be deemed contraband, damaged, tampered or for other reasons.

Community Service Program
Mackinac County Jail has an active community service program that provides needed services to assist in shoveling walks, lawn mowing lawns for the elderly or handicapped and various parks and recreation projects. These programs not only assist the community but allow inmates to learn valuable skills that can be used when they are released from jail. Legal council may meet with inmates throughout the day except during the mid-day meal from 11:30AM-12:30PM and dinner from 4:30PM-5:30PM.
Visitation Rules
- Visitors must complete the sign-in sheet and provide photo ID.
- Visitors must not have been in the Mackinac County Jail in the previous six months or owe the jail for past housing expenses.
- Visitors shall not be under the influence of illegal drugs or alcohol.
- Visitors are subject to a criminal wants/warrants check and search.
- Visits must be kept quiet, no foul language or disruptive behavior.
- Children under 17 must be accompanied by their parent or guardian.
- Visitors are to use the telephone in the visiting booth.
- No food or drink is allowed in the visiting booth.
- We reserve the right to deny any visitor or end any visit early.
Directions to the facility
When traveling north on I-75, exit at the first St. Ignace exit just north of the Mackinac Bridge. Take US-2 east into downtown St. Ignace (US-2 is North State Street in town). Turn left on to Truckey Street across from Ace Hardware. Truckey Street dead-ends at the Courthouse which has ample free parking.
When traveling south on I-75, take the Portage Street exit, turn left. The Courthouse will be on your right.
When traveling east on US-2, go into downtown St. Ignace, then turn left on to Truckey Street across from Ace Hardware.
