The Marquette County MI Jail is a medium-security detention center located at 236 W Baraga Ave Marquette, MI which is operated locally by the Marquette County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Marquette County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Marquette Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
The 80-bed Marquette County Jail may also house up to 10 federal inmates. The three-story facility has blocks on each floor where the inmates are classified based on the severity of their crimes. Inmate Status Information
Prior to arraignment, the only information that we are permitted to give is whether or not someone is lodged and their bond amount. Messages will not be passed to inmates unless is it a verifiable emergency.

Inmate Correspondence – All inmate correspondence must be sent through the USPS to the main jail, this includes inmates that are housed at the Detention Center.
Inmate Medication – Prescription medication, for pre-existing conditions, is allowable. However, the meds will be verified by the jail health care provider prior to administration. Medications must be in the original container to be accepted. No mixed medications will be authorized.
Personal Items – No personal items will be accepted for inmates housed at the main jail facility. Exceptions to this rule are for those that are ordered by the court to wear personal clothing for a jury trial. Reading Materials – Inmates have access to books via the jail library. Newspaper and magazine subscriptions are permitted by direct mail from the publisher. After an inmate is released, it is their responsibility to cancel the subscription. Any items received after an inmate's release will not be returned or forwarded and are placed in the jail library for circulation. No pornographic or suggestive materials will be accepted.
Inmate Programs – In-House Adult Ed/GED– Inmates are able to enroll in the Marquette Community Schools Adult Education and General Equivalency Diploma (GED) programs. These two programs have been combined into one. A certified teacher from the Marquette Area Schools comes to the jail twice per week for 2-hour sessions. Inmates can acquire GED certification and/or high school credit.
Inmate Worker – Enables inmates to perform assigned tasks within the confines of the jail. The jail staff screens all offenders prior to enrollment. Inmate workers are given responsibilities that do not impair or disrupt the orderly running of the jail; working in the kitchen or laundry are two such examples. Inmates are able to benefit from the work experience and develop a more positive attitude about themselves.
Religious Services – Christian church services are available to inmates every Monday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with one-on-one counseling available on Thursdays. Other clergy visits of approved religions permitted by the Department of Corrections are allowed with prior notice to the corrections staff.
Thinking Matters– A cognitive program designed for recidivists and/or high-risk inmates in an attempt to improve decision-making skills. This group is available to inmates every Tuesday at both facilities.
Alcoholics Anonymous – Typically, run weekly by approved volunteers, at the main facility and detention center.
Inmates who are housed at the Marquette County Community Corrections Detention Center will also have the opportunity to participate in various other programming including, but not limited to, Principles of Recovery, Life Skills, Anger Management, Effects of Substance Abuse on the Family and Narcotics Anonymous.

All inmates will be allowed two (2) visits per week. Each visit will allow for twenty (20) minutes per visit with no more than one (1) visit per day. Items accepted for inmates over the counter include: money, clothing needed for court and prescription medication. Visitors attempting to bring in contraband will be prosecuted. |

Must be at least seventeen (17) years of age with picture identification. Visitors unable to provide picture identification will be denied a visit.

Children under the age of seventeen (17) are not permitted in the lobby during visitation time.

No food or drink permitted.

No packages, tobacco products, cell phones or pagers are permitted.

Swearing or loud talking is not tolerated and can result in being removed from the visiting room or lobby.

No revealing attire, jewelry, gang insignia or offensive clothing will be allowed.

Criminal records checks will be conducted and must be clear of warrants or you will be denied a visit.
Clergy & Attorneys – Must produce valid identification to be admitted to the jail. Religious visits are limited to religions approved by the Michigan Department of Corrections. Jail officers will assign the visiting area. Visiting hours for clergy & attorneys are 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and 6:30 p.m.. to 9:00 p.m. every day.
