The McCreary County Jail – CLOSED is a medium-security detention center located at 36 Court St
PO Box 327 Whitley City, KY which is operated locally by the McCreary County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. McCreary County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Whitley City Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
Inmates have been moved to either the Laurel County Correctional Center or the Wayne County Correctional Center.
