The inmates housed at MD DOC – Central Maryland Correctional Facility (CMCF) located at 7301 Buttercup Road in Sykesville, MD are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

Central Maryland Correctional Facility is located in Sykesville Maryland. It is a minimum security institution that houses over 495 adult male inmates. On average, offenders stay at this prisonabout 18 months. This facility employs 119 people and has an annual operating cost of $14.4 million. Offenders incarcerated here can earn a GED and receive substance abuse treatment.
Inmates at Central Maryland Correctional Facility can participate in many programs while incarcerated. One of the programs allows the inmates to work with retired horses, another program provides industrial cleaning supplies for many institutions. A massive laundry operation known as the Central Laundry employs 120 offenders who work processing the laundry for many facilities.

Visitors must be registered at least 30 minutes prior to the end of the visiting period.
Visiting registrations ends at 8:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.

General Information:
Use of restroom facilities is prohibited during visitation. If either the inmate or a visitor requires the use of the restroom, the visit will be terminated at that time. Please keep this in mind when visiting with small children.
All visitors are subject to canine (if available), electronic drug detection device (if available), and/or visual mouth searches prior to being allowed to visit an inmate. If you cannot clear the metal detector, you will be denied entry. Nothing may be brought into the institution except as authorized by the warden or designee. Any item brought into this institution in a manner other than authorized is contraband, and the person bringing the item into the institution is subject to criminal penalties.
A visitor 16 years of age and older must present photograph identification.
Children (18 years of age and younger) visiting the inmate must be immediate family to either the inmate or the visitor and must be accompanied by a person 18 years of age or older who is on the inmate's visiting list.
Inmates are allowed two (2) visits per week. Both visits can occur during the week or one during the week and one on the weekend.
Only four (4) visitors are permitted to see one (1) inmate; including infants and children.

Visitor Dress Code
All visitors, to include children, must dress appropriately for visitation. All clothing must cover from the neck to the kneecaps.
The following types of clothing are not allowed to be worn:
- tube tops, tank tops, or halter tops
- see-through clothing
- mini-skirts, mini-dresses, shorts, skorts, or culottes (at or above the kneecap)
- form-fitting clothes such as leotards, spandex, and leggings
- clothes that expose a person's midriff, side, or back
- tops or dresses that have revealing necklines and/or excessive splits
- coats, jackets, shawls and scarves will be placed in an appropriate area (Exceptions will be made for religious head dress)
- shower shoes or flip flops.
