The inmates housed at MD DOC – Maryland Correctional Institution for Women (MCI-W) located at 7943 Brock Bridge Road in Jessup, MD are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

Maryland Correctional Institution for Women is located in JessupMaryland. It is multi custody level facility that houses minimum, medium and maximum security female inmates. It is the only 100% female facility in Maryland and houses over 875 inmates. The average sentence for inmates at this prison is ten years. The facility operates on a $38 million annual budget and employs 361 staff members.
Inmates incarcerated at Maryland Correctional Institution for Women can participate in the Maryland Correctional Enterprise program. The program allows offenders to work in a sewing shop producing uniforms, embroidery and flags for the state; a mailing center that is responsible for motor vehicle registration, aids prevention material, and creating vanitylicense plates; and a graphic design studio that creates maps of various state offices. Inmates can also earn a GED and take college courses offered through a local college. Substance abuse treatment is also available to inmates.

Visiting Hours
**Beginning on August 25, MCI-W will also hold visiting hours on Thursdays, from 5 – 8 p.m.**
All visitors must arrive at least one hour before the close of visitation.
Visits are permitted based on the last digit of the inmate's corrections identification number and the corresponding calendar date.
Inmates with odd ending numbers (1,3,5,7,9) are permitted visits on the corresponding odd date (January -December 1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15 etc.).
Inmates with even ending numbers (0,2,4,6,8) are permitted visits on the corresponding even date (January -December 0,2,4,6,8,10,12,14 etc.).
There are no visits on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or the 31st of any month.

General Information:
Use of restroom facilities is prohibited during visitation. If either the inmate or a visitor requires the use of the restroom, the visit will be terminated at that time. Please keep this in mind when visiting with small children.
All visitors are subject to canine (if available), electronic drug detection device (if available), and/or visual mouth searches prior to being allowed to visit an inmate. If you cannot clear the metal detector, you will be denied entry. Nothing may be brought into the institution except as authorized by the warden or designee. Any item brought into this institution in a manner other than authorized is contraband, and the person bringing the item into the institution is subject to criminal penalties.
A visitor 16 years of age and older must present photograph identification.
Children (18 years of age and younger) visiting the inmate must be immediate family to either the inmate or the visitor and must be accompanied by a person 18 years of age or older who is on the inmate's visiting list.
An inmate may receive no more than two (2) visits per week and only one (1) visit per day.
A maximum of four (4) visitors may visit an inmate at one time, regardless of age, with the exception of infants (6 months or younger). At least one visitor must be an adult.
Visits that take place in the infirmary are limited to two (2) adult visitors.
No packages, money orders, cash or checks may be brought into the institution by visitors. Inmate mail must be mailed to the inmate at P.O. Box 535, Jessup, Maryland 20794. Money orders should be mailed to the inmate at P.O. Box 17111 Baltimore, MD 21297-1111.
