PO Box 549 in Jessup, MD are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

General Population
Duration: 1 hour
Monday and Friday: 4:30 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Inmates can either have a visitor on Saturday or Sunday:
12 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Administrative Segregation
Duration: 1 hour

Disciplinary Segregation

On Saturday and Sunday the registration will stop from 2:15pm to 3:15pm. Visitors will be required to wait outside the gate. Visitation will resume at 4:30pm. Visitors already in the visiting room will be allowed to continue with their visiting until the allotted time is complete.
General Information:
All visitors are subject to canine search (if available), electronic drug detection device search (if available), random frisk search before entering the visiting room and/or visual mouth searches prior to being allowed to visit an inmate. If you cannot clear the metal detector or the fingerprint process, you will be denied entry. If you require authorization to enter due to a previous criminal history or will not clear the metal detector due to metal implants or medical reasons please contact the warden’s office for further information.
Nothing may be brought into the institution except as authorized by the warden. Any item brought into this institution in a manner other than authorized, is contraband and the person bringing the item into the institution is subject to criminal penalties. The lockers in the institution are a fee of $.50 (two quarters) per visit. No packages, electronic devices, money orders, control drug substance, cash or checks are permitted into the institution or to be stored in the lockers by visitors. Inmate mail must be sent to P.O. Box 549, Jessup, Maryland 20794. Money orders should be mailed to the inmate at P.O. Box 17111 Baltimore, MD 21297-1111.
A visitor 16 years of age and older must present photograph identification. Visitors 17 years of age or younger visiting the inmate must be accompanied by a person 18 years of age or older who is on the inmate's visiting list. Visitors under 18 years of age must be immediate family of the inmate or the visitor. The visitor’s badge will remain on the visitor’s person at all times. Visitors must enter and exit the visiting room as a group. During the visit touching each other at the beginning, kissing each other on the mouth, use of restroom facilities and taking pictures is prohibited. Please keep this in mind when visiting with small children. No more than three (3) adult and three (3) children visitors may visit an inmate at one time. Visitors with children under 6 months of age are allowed one (1) clear bottle, one (1) pacifier, one (1) receiving blanket and all children must remain seated throughout the visit. A nursing mother may breastfeed her infant in the visiting room as long as the officers are informed prior to the start of the visit and the mother can do so without distracting others.

Visitor Dress Code
All visitors, to include children, must dress appropriately for visitation. All clothing must cover from the neck to the kneecaps.
The following types of clothing are not allowed to be worn:
- tube tops, tank tops, or halter tops
- see-through clothing
- mini-skirts, mini-dresses, shorts, skorts, or culottes (at or above the kneecap)
- form-fitting clothes such as leotards, spandex, and leggings
- clothes that expose a person's midriff, side, or back
- tops or dresses that have revealing necklines and/or excessive splits
- coats, jackets, shawls and scarves will be placed in an appropriate area.
