The Meeker County Jail & Detention is a medium-security detention center located at 326 North Ramsey Litchfield, MN which is operated locally by the Meeker County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Meeker County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Litchfield Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
The Meeker County Detention Center provides for the safe, secure, and humane detention of offenders in Meeker County.
The Detention Center construction was completed in 1999. We are licensed to house 69 inmates. We house work release inmates as well as minimum, medium, and maximum inmates. The Detention Center employs 9 full-time and 6 part-time Correctional Officers, as well as a Jail Programmer and Jail Administrator. We have a Public Health Nurse that visits the center three times a week. We have volunteers who provide GED, AA/NA, and religious services from a number of churches, as well as visits to inmates from local clergy for consoling.
Pay to Stay is a fee that is charged for any time that an inmate does in jail once they are sentenced. Time that the person spent in jail prior to their sentencing will be added to any additional time the inmate is sentenced to.
The fee for Pay to Stay is $20 per day. Payment arrangements will be made before the inmate is released.
Sentenced inmates are released at approximately 8 a.m. on their outdate. They can be picked up at the Detention Center Entrance, Door A. Please be patient with our release process.
