MI DOC – Alger Correctional Facility (LMF) basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 906-387-5000

This facility is for adult inmates.

The inmates housed at Alger Correctional located at N6141 Industrial Park Dr in Munising, MI are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

Alger Correctional Facility is located in Munising Michigan. It is a level IV and II prison that can house 896 adult male offenders. Alger Correctional consists of six housing units. The general population occupies four of the housing units, and segregation inmates occupy the other two units. Two fences lined with razor wire, armed guard towers, an electronic detection system, and routine patrols ensure the inmates stay within the prison. Inmates can earn an adult basic education and a GED while incarcerated. Substance abuse treatment is available to all inmates who suffer from addiction, and mental health resources in the form of psychotherapy are also available. All inmates are provided with dental and medical care.
AGE LIMIT: Males, 18 and older
Programming – Prisoner programs include general library, law library, barbering, Adult Basic Education and General Education Development classes. The prison also has substance-abuse treatment, psychotherapy and religious activities.
Prisoners are provided on-site routine medical and dental care. Serious and emergency problems are treated via local community providers, the Brooks Medical Center at Marquette Branch Prison and the Duane L. Waters Health Care in Jackson.
Security – Double fences, gun towers, electronic detection systems, razor-ribbon wire and patrol vehicles make up the perimeter security.
