MI DOC – Macomb Correctional Facility (MRF) basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 586-749-4900
This facility is for adult inmates.
The inmates housed at Macomb Correctional located at 34625 26 Mile Rd in New Haven, MI are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
The Macomb Correctional Facility is a mixed-custody state prison facility that can house about 1,400 adult males from security level I to IV and sits on a 100-acre site comprising of 11 major buildings and two minor buildings. The prison contains four Level II housing units, two Level IV units and one Level I building outside the security perimeter. Four other buildings house a school, the administration offices, support services and storage. The prison is secured by three twelve foot fences topped in razor wire, which is also in the space between the fence utilizing electronic detection sensors that alert to movement between the fences, and two armed guard towers and a perimeter response vehicle ensure no inmates escape.
Programming – Educational programming includes Special Education, General Education Development preparation, Adult Basic Education and vocational classes. Facility staff work closely with community groups and encourage community volunteer participation. Routine health and dental care are provided on site. Major emergencies are treated in a community hospital or at the Duane L. Waters Health Center in Jackson. A Residential Treatment program is provided for inmates needing a residential setting for Mental Health treatment.
Security – The perimeter of the prison is enclosed by double, 12-foot galvanized chain link fences topped with coiled stainless steel razor-ribbon wire. The wire is also in the space between the two fences to enhance the barrier. A third, 12-foot galvanized chain link fence, topped with stainless steel razor-ribbon wire provides a buffer between the facility property lines and the perimeter road. An electronic detection system is in use on the inner perimeter and the buffer fences. The prison's security was further enhanced in 1997 by the addition of two gun towers. An armed officer in an alert response vehicle provides checks of perimeter zone brakes.
