MI DOC – Muskegon Correctional Facility (MCF) basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 231-773-3201

This facility is for adult inmates.

The inmates housed at Muskegon Correctional located at 2400 S Sheridan Dr in Muskegon, MI are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

The Muskegon Correctional Facility is a level II state prison that houses about 1,325 adult male Michigan Department of Corrections inmates located in the heavily wooded section of Muskegon. The facility is secured by three fences covered in razor wire. In addition to fences, this prison utilizes security cameras, electronic motion detection systems, armed patrols, and has several armed guard towers to ensure no inmate escapes. Inmates have religious worship and classes offered through the chaplain's office, and can also participate in education courses that allow the offender to gain an adult basic education and earn a GED.

Vocational activities include food preparation and maintenance. Inmates can also receive substance abuse treatment and counseling.

Programming – Muskegon Correctional Facility provides a wide range of programs. Academic programs cover Adult Basic Education and General Education Development completion. Also offered is training programs in food preparation. Many programs are carried out with the help of a variety of Muskegon community groups. Volunteers made up primarily of local clergy and lay people, assist the staff chaplain in providing religious instruction.
The Muskegon Correctional was a pioneer in using a pre-release program, which was developed by a committee made up of prisoners and staff. Currently, Substance Abuse Education and Thinking For a Change are provided.
Security – The prison is surrounded by three fences with razor-ribbon wire, gun towers, armed patrols, cameras and electronic detection systems.
