This facility is for adult inmates.

The inmates housed at Oaks Correctional located at 1500 Caberfae Hwy in Manistee, MI are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

The Oaks Correctional Facility is a mixed custody state prison facility that houses level II and level IV adult male inmates located in Manistee and operated by the Michigan Department of Corrections. Oaks is comprised of eleven main buildings, in seven main buildings, two of which are designated as segregation units with 96 beds per unit. There are four general population housing units – two Level II units and two Level IV units each housing 192 prisoners and are double bunked. There is also one double bunked general population unit that houses 192 prisoner whose protections needs cannot be met in a traditional general population setting and do not require placement in administrative segregation based on their conduct.

Prisoners are housed in units according to their security level. The prison is comprised of two level IV units, two level II units, two segregation units and a general population unit. Inmates are secured in the facility by two fences with an electronic detection system, five armed guard towers, and a patrol vehicle. While incarcerated inmates can take adult basic education courses and earn a GED. A pre-release program helps prepare inmates for reentry into society at the end of their sentence. Other programs available include substance abuse treatment, anger management, violence prevention, and parenting courses. Additional classes inmates can participate in include business courses, computers, and financial planning.
Programming – The Oaks offers academic programs that include Adult Basic Education and General Education Development completion, Pre-Release programming and Introduction to Computers. The average school enrollment is 170 prisoners. Reentry Programming is offered in the form of Violence Prevention Programming (VPP), Thinking for Change, and Substance Abuse Education-Phase 1 and 2. Leisure activities include participation in athletics, religious services, self-help programs (Cage Your Rage, Victim Awareness, Anger Management, Alcoholics Anonymous/Narcotics Anonymous, Stress Management, Pre-Release, Getting the Buzz on Business, Own Your Own Business, Communications, Men Are Parent Too, Thinking Matter, Job Success, Basic Photography, Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University) Hobbycraft and Legal/General library.
Security – The facility is encircled by two security fences featuring state of the arts electronic monitoring systems and concertina wire. The facility also has 24-hour availability of an alert response vehicle and five gun towers, two of which are manned during prisoner movement.

Visiting Hours 

Monday, Thursday and Friday are 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. 

Weekend visits are according to an odd/even schedule, based on the last digit of the prisoner's number. 
If the number ends in an odd digit that prisoner may have visitation only on the odd dated weekend day.
