This facility is for adult inmates.

The inmates housed at St. Louis Correctional located at 8585 N Croswell Rd in St. Louis, MI are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

The St. Louis Correctional Facility is a level IV state prison facility that can house about 1,200 adult male inmates under the direction of the Michigan Department of Corrections located on 67 acres of land in Gratiot County. Inmates in the general population are housed in one of six housing units, in addition there is an Adaptive skills residential program unit, and a segregation unit. This prison is secured by two fences covered in razor wire, a perimeter electronic detection system, armed patrol and cameras. consisting of separate buildings for administration, food services, education, maintenance, storage and prisoner housing. There are six general population housing units, one is an Adaptive Skills Residential Program (ASRP) Unit that provides specialized programming in a supportive housing environment for prisoners. There is one Segregation Unit that houses up to 96 prisoners.

Inmates incarcerated here can receive medical and dental treatment on site. In addition, offenders can take adult basic education courses, and earn their GED. Mental health treatment programs to reduce violence and encourage critical thinking as well as substance abuse treatment is also available.

Programming – Pre-release preparation, psychological counseling, Strategies for Thinking Productively (STP is a cognitive restructuring program), Cage Your Rage and substance-abuse treatment are offered. An academic and vocational program offers Adult Basic Education, General Education Development opportunities and Custodial Maintenance Technology. Other programs and services include general and law library, hobbycraft, religious services, recreation programs, and a barbershop.
Prisoners are provided with on-site routine medical, including x-ray, and dental care. Telemedicine is available and there is a mini-clinic in each housing unit. Serious problems are treated at the department's Duane L. Waters Health Care in Jackson, and emergencies can be referred to the local hospital.
Security – The facility is surrounded by two fences, with razor-ribbon wire on the side and top of the exterior fence. The perimeter is also monitored by an electronic detection system. There are armed gun towers and the perimeter of the facility is patrolled by armed personnel. Surveillance cameras are extensively used.

Visiting Hours 

Monday, Thursday and Friday are 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. 

Weekend visits are according to an odd/even schedule, based on the last digit of the prisoner's number. 
If the number ends in an odd digit that prisoner may have visitation only on the odd dated weekend day.
