The inmates housed at West Shoreline Correctional located at 2500 S Sheridan Dr in Muskegon Heights, MI are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

The West Shoreline Correctional Facility (WSCF) is a secure level I prison that houses 1,282 adult male inmates in one of three in a complex of Michigan Department of Corrections facilities. As part of a complex, it shares some operations with the other facilities. There are eight separate housing units contained in four buildings. Each unit has 120 beds. The remaining buildings are used for administration, health services, school, library, maintenance, storage and mail office. The WSCF and the Brooks Correctional Facility were the first two prisons to share services. Positions shared with Brooks are warden and warden's staff, business manager, personnel officer, training staff, school principal, mail room staff, physical plant superintendent and warehouse manager.

Programming – West Shoreline is a Michigan Prisoner Re-entry Initiative in-reach facility. The MPRI program is designed to work with Michigan communities and private agencies to assist prisoners to successfully re-enter society. Academic programs consist of Adult Basic Education and General Education Development completion. Vocational programs are available in office occupations. Other programs include sex-offender treatment, substance-abuse treatment and religious services.

Prisoners are provided with on-site routine medical and dental care. Serious problems are treated at the department's Duane L. Waters Health Care in Jackson, and emergencies can be referred to a local hospital.

Security – The perimeter includes two fences with rolls of razor-ribbon wire on the side and top of the exterior fence. The fence area is also monitored by a series of sensors that detect anyone approaching them. A vehicle, with armed personnel, patrols the perimeter constantly.

Visiting Hours

Monday, Thursday and Friday are 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Weekend visits are according to an odd/even schedule, based on the last digit of the prisoner's number.
If the number ends in an odd digit that prisoner may have visitation only on the odd dated weekend day.
