This facility is for adult inmates.

The inmates housed at Woodland Center Correctional located at 9036 East M-36 in Whitmore Lake, MI are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

The Woodland Center Correctional Facility is a level I and level IV state prison facility with a capacity to house 352 adult males comprised of six housing pods, currently used for Michigan Department of Correction's inmates are located in Whitmore Lake. The inmates are housed in one of six pods. Many of those located at this prison suffer from a severe mental illness and require separation from general prison populations. Regular evaluations and treatment are provided for inmates, as well as an on-site infirmary. Offenders are secured by a curved 14-foot high fence covered in anti-climb fabric and hooked up to an electronic detection system. Every prisoner is outfitted with an electronic tether unit that ensures they are always accounted for.

An infirmary provides medical services for all prisoners being housed. A food serving area is located within the housing complex and the kitchen is located outside the secure perimeter.

The majority of prisoners have serious mental illness and cannot function adequately in a general prison population. They receive evaluations and treatment services from the Corrections Mental Health Program (CMHP) and are classified into acute care, rehabilitation treatment services, or crisis stabilization services.

Programming – A wide range of therapeutic programs are offered. Prisoners also have access to religious programs, general library and law library. Prisoners are provided on-site routine medical and dental care. Medical emergencies are referred to a local hospital as needed.

Security – The prison is surrounded by a 14-foot curved fence with anti-climb fabric and a special electronic detection system. Each prisoner wears an electronic tether unit. Vehicles with armed personnel patrol the perimeter.

Visiting Hours

Monday, Thursday and Friday are 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Weekend visits are according to an odd/even schedule, based on the last digit of the prisoner's number.
If the number ends in an odd digit that prisoner may have visitation only on the odd dated weekend day.
