MiI DOC – Boyer Road Correctional Facility (OTF) with Carson City CF basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 989-584-3941
This facility is for adult inmates.
The inmates housed at Boyer Rd Correctional located at 10274 Boyer Rd
in Carson City, MI are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
The Boyer Road Correctional Facility is actually comprised of two facilities, Carson City Correctional Facility-East and Carson City Correctional Facility-West. The two facilities were consolidated into Boyer Road Correctional Facility in August of 2009 and can now hold a total about 2,400 adult males. The Boyer Road Facility houses level I inmates in eight units with seven-bed open bay pods.
The Carson City portion of the facility houses level II inmates in three units totalling 720 and has two level IV units that contain 384 inmates. The facility itself is secured by double fences that are covered in razor wire. In addition to fencing, the facility has electronic monitoring, a patrol around the perimeter, and armed guard towers. Inmates are encouraged to take GED courses to earn a diploma. Work assignments are provided to level I prisoners, and some selected inmates can even participate in supervised work detail in the surrounding community. Vocational skills taught at this facility include various construction trades, horticulture, and work assignments in the Michigan State Prison Industries garment factory.
AGE LIMIT: Males, 18 and older
Programming – Academic programming is available to assist prisoners in preparing for GED completion. Prisoners who have already attained their high school diploma or GED also have the opportunity to obtain vocational training in building trades, office occupations and horticulture. Routine work assignments are available to prisoners, as well as employment opportunities at the Michigan State Industries garment factory. The Boyer Road Correctional Facility is involved in the Michigan Prisoner Reentry Initiative.
