The inmates housed at Eastern Reception & Diagnostic located at 2727 Hwy K in Bonne Terre, MO are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
The ERDCC is a 2,684-bed minimum, medium and maximum security state prison located in a detached eastern section of Bonne Terre, Missouri. The ERDCC serves as the point of admission for male offenders committed by the courts in eastern Missouri to the Missouri Department of Corrections. Missouri's lethal injection execution chamber is also located at ERDCC. It operates a cooked and chilled food facility, a unit that prepares and transports all regular and special diet meals to the Potosi, Farmington and Missouri Eastern Correctional Centers and the St. Louis Community Release Center. Executions are carried out here.
