The inmates housed at Northeast Correctional located at 13698 Airport Rd in Bowling Green, MO are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

Northeast Correctional is a minimum-medium custody state prison facility that has the capacity to house 2,106 adult male inmates located in adjacent to the Bowling Green Municipal Airport. Northeast runs a 24-bed substance abuse treatment program and provides substance abuse assessment services. Inmates can also participate in Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous meetings. While incarcerated, inmates are encouraged to take vocational classes in computer training, maintenance, and HVAC. Parenting programs designed for inmates with children are also available as well as educational courses available, that enable them to earn a GED and adult basic education while they serve their sentences.
