Montgomery County OH Detention Center basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 937-225-4160
This facility is for adult inmates.
The Montgomery County OH Detention Center is a medium-security detention center located at 345 W 2nd St Dayton, OH which is operated locally by the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and holds inmates awaiting trial or sentencing or both. Most of the sentenced inmates are here for less than two years. Montgomery County accepts inmates from surrounding towns, municipalities, the US Marshal's Service and the Dayton Police Department who do not have their own long-term lock-up.
This facility will not forward incoming phone calls to an inmate or take messages for inmates. Phones are available for inmates to use, however, they may only place Collect, Prepaid Collect and Prepaid Calling Card calls from these phones. The Montgomery County Jail contracts with a private phone service called Pay Tel Communications that handles our inmate phone service. Inmates are allowed to talk for 20-minute increments, after 20 minutes the phone call will be terminated. If you have any other questions or need to set up an account, you can visit Pay Tel's website at paytel.com or contact a Customer Service Representative at 1-800-729-8355.
Legal Mail and Money Orders will continue to be sent to the facility directly at:

The Montgomery County Jail Staff will not accept books, magazines, parcels, newspapers, photocopied items, or any packages mailed or brought into the jail unless they pertain to legal correspondence from an attorney or the court. This jail allows inmates to receive books in the mail but they must be mailed directly from the publisher to the inmate and must include the inmate's name and ID number.
Books must NOT contain images or content that are considered excessively violent, pornographic, or obscene. Any book that does not meet the Montgomery County Justice Center standards will be disposed of. Hard covered books will not be accepted by the jail due to their potential to be used as a weapon.
Recreation – The Jail's recreation staff coordinates all inmate recreational activities. Eligible inmates are offered up to five hours of recreational activity weekly. Basketball, volleyball, and ping-pong are among the activities that are available during recreation periods.
Library – The recreation staff coordinates the library services within the jail. The recreation staff distributes a variety of reading materials, educational books, and legal manuals to each of the housing units.
Day Reporting Program – Non-violent offenders serving sentences may be screened for release into the Day Reporting Program in lieu of incarceration. Inmates in the program report daily and through their work perform valuable community service, while under the supervision of sheriffs deputies. This program has the added benefit of teaching inmates valuable work ethics and skills.
Inmate's Work Program – The Inmate's Work Program has always been a vital part of the jail's daily operations. Inmates perform laundry services, kitchen duty,
assist with the commissary, and to assist with the overall cleanliness and sanitation of the facility. In 1993, the Inmate Work Program was expanded to include work details outside the Jail including washing patrol cars, assisting with loading dock deliveries, and picking up debris around county facilities. This program saves the county money and provides meaningful activity for the inmates.
