This facility is for adult inmates.
The inmates housed at Gaston CC located at 520 Justice Court in Dallas, NC are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
c is a minimum-security prison for male offenders ages 18 and older located in Dallas, North Carolina. Gaston has the capacity to house 242 adult male inmates. While incarcerated inmates can receive an adult basic education and earn a GED. Additionally, offenders can participate in various programs made available through the Chaplains office including biblical studies, and worship services. Inmates can also attend group substance abuse treatment through Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous.
Gaston Correctional Center offers work release to offenders who are nearing completion of their sentence. Work release allows the inmate to report to a job in the surrounding community during the day and return to the institution at the end of their shift. This enables the inmate to acclimate to life beyond incarceration and prepare financially for their release. Additional work opportunities are available within the correctional center including working in the kitchen, in maintenance, and doing custodial work.
It offers inmates programs such as Character Education, Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, DART Aftercare, Think Smart, Bible Study, religious services and community leave. Work opportunities include Department of Transportation and community work crews, municipality crews, work release, and facility assignments such as kitchen, maintenance, and janitorial.
Programs/Work Assignments
The facility works in conjunction with Gaston Community College to offer Adult Basic Education and GED classes. The Human Resource Development Program teaches inmates skills such as resume writing and job interview skills. Study release is also available.
HISTORY- Gaston was one of 51 county prisons the state assumed responsibility for in 1931 and was renovated in the late 1930s to house inmates who worked for the Department of Transportation constructing highways. The facility's original housing units are still in use today.
