NCDPS – Hyde Correctional Institution basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 252-926-1810

This facility is for adult inmates.

The inmates housed at Hyde CI located at 620 Prison Rd in Fairfield, NC are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

Hyde Correctional Institution is a medium/minimum security prison for adult males located in Fairfield, North Carolina that houses 736 adult males. Inmates are housed in three dormitories separately from the minimum custody inmates, who are housed at a satellite unit comprised of two modular buildings. Some inmates may be selected to work on one of four road crews that provide road labor to surrounding counties. Offenders incarcerated at Hyde Correctional Institution are provided medical, mental health and dental treatment. Additionally, inmates can receive substance abuse treatment. Any offender who does not possess a diploma can take adult basic education courses and obtain a GED while incarcerated

The design of the prison reflects improvements to the plans used in the construction of the Lumberton Correctional Institution. By using prototype designs in this fashion, the department builds facilities with similar mechanical, electric and security systems.

Hyde Correctional Institution consists of three dormitories linked to a common circulation corridor. A single building provides food service, medical service, visitation areas, maintenance, programs, administrative space, and a 20-bed segregation unit.

In 1999, a minimum custody satellite unit was added. Minimum custody inmates were moved into the satellite unit and housed in two modular buildings.

Hyde mans four medium custody road squad vans that service Hyde, Tyrrell, Beaufort, Martin, and Washington counties.
