The inmates housed at Maury CI located at 2568 Moore Rouse Rd in Hookerton, NC are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
Maury Correctional Institution is a close and medium security prison for adult males located near Hookerton, North Carolina, part of Greene County. It is a close custody facility, which is the highest security level any state correctional facility in North Carolina is rated. Close custody facilities incarcerate inmates who have committed very serious, usually violent crimes, and inmates who have shown non-compliance to facility rules.
Offenders are housed in four distinct units. The Red unit is reserved for inmates who are in the mental health program or in segregation. The Blue unit is for offenders who have medical issues. The Green units is for general population inmates who may participate in programs and work assignments. The Gray Unit houses the most dangerous inmates who present management problems and require a maximum control environment. Offenders at Maury Correctional Institution can receive substance abuse treatment, and receive mental health, medical, and dental services while incarcerated. Additionally, inmates may participate in classes to earn a GED and obtain an adult basic education.
It opened in April 2006, becoming the fourth of six 1000-bed facilities opened before 2008. A 504-bed medium-custody unit was completed after opening. The prison employs correctional officers, food service programs, medical/mental health, maintenance and administrative staff.
The facility is operated under the unit management system and is separated into six separate units. The Green Unit houses inmates assigned to the residential mental health program, outpatient mental health regular population, and Veteran's dorm regular population. Blue Unit houses regular population and inmates with chronic medical problems. Red Unit houses inmates in Restrictive Housing and regular population. Gray Unit houses inmates in a Therapeutic Diversion Unit (TDU) and maximum control environment. All regular population inmates are afforded the opportunity to participate in various work assignments and programs to assist them with future reintegration back into the community.

NCDPS – Maury Correctional Institution – Visitation
The regular visitation schedule, by appointment only, is Tuesday – Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. and Tuesday – Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.
Inmates who have not lost their visitation privilege and are housed on the Segregation Unit will receive their visitation by appointment Tuesday – Friday (9 – 10 a.m. 2 – 3 p.m.). The visit will be a maximum of one hour and will be held in the non-contact visitation area. To arrange the visit, the family member will contact the facility and ask for the Visitation Officer at (252) 747-1445 at least 24 hours prior to the requested visit. The Visitation Office hours for scheduling appointments are Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Special visits for Security Threat inmates will be non-contact in the Segregation Visitation area for one hour if privileges have not been taken.
Attorney and media visits will be handled by Support Services Captain with consultation/approval from the Facility Administrator. The attorney/media representative will fax a letter on their letterhead stating the inmate that he/she wishes to visit, the requested date and time of the visit, and a copy of their credentials (driver license, professional license, etc.) to (252) 747-1687 or (252) 747-5807. Once approved, the attorney/media representative will be contacted. Those special visits will be approved for a maximum of two hours and will be held in the visitation area Monday through Friday.
DIRECTIONS – From Raleigh: Take U.S. 70 to Goldsboro. Follow Hwy 13 N to Snow Hill, then take Hwy 13N/258N towards Farmville to Four Way Road, The prison is approximately 3 miles on the left.
