NV DOC – Humboldt Conservation Camp (HCC) basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 775-623-6530

This facility is for adult inmates.

The inmates housed at Humboldt Conservation Camp located at 8105 Conservation Rd in Winnemucca, NV are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

HCC is a minimum-security state prison camp opened in 1986 and consists of 22 trailers brought down from the Alaskan pipeline project. Humboldt Camp is a Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) fire camp and can have as many as six 12-man crews fighting fires at any given time. During the off-time of firefighting, the crews spend their days doing project work, such as highway clean-up for the Department of Transportation or working in the local community. Work crews are available for hire in the local community by contacting the NDF supervisor at (775) 623-6535.

Humboldt Conservation Camp (HCC) – Lifetime of Learning Education Programs

Inmates can use money in their inmate banking account to purchase debit calling time through the Inmate Store.

Programs: Vocational Training, Educational Opportunities, and Treatment Services – Humboldt Conservation Camp offers educational assistance to inmates who want to obtain their GED or High School diploma as well as some college courses. Vocational training includes Automotive & Mechanics Training, Heating and Air Conditioning, and Carpentry.

Prison Industries – The Prison Industries building complex is comprised of one building of approximately 65,000 square feet. The Prison Industries building houses six work bays of approximately 10,000 square feet. Each of the bays has camera surveillance capabilities and a dining area for the workers.

Vocational Training – More than 78% of inmates come to prison with minimal job training. Vocational skills are taught to Nevada inmates by the school districts and colleges, prison industries, and the Nevada Division of Forestry. Inmates can learn culinary skills, construction trades, animal science, fire-fighting, auto mechanics and restoration, business and management, equipment repair, HVAC installation and repair, welding, furniture manufacturing, dry cleaning, computer skills and more. Inmates may also get prison jobs as clerks, cooks, janitors, maintenance workers, landscapers, construction crews and other such positions that provide them on-the-job training.
Incentives for Inmates – Nevada law provides incentives for offenders to earn an education while incarcerated; among these incentives is the application of educational credits toward the reduction of sentences. An offender, who earns a certificate, educational or vocational, while behind bars, may qualify to expedite his/her release date.
Reducing Recidivism – When combined with other rehabilitative programs, education is a powerful factor in reducing recidivism. Rigorous study gives offenders the intellectual leverage they need to revise their view of themselves and leave prison better equipped to contribute positively to their families and communities. Education has been the longest-running and most successful rehabilitative program in our prison history.
