NV DOC – Jean Conservation Camp (JCC) basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 702-874-2509
This facility is for adult inmates.
The inmates housed at Jean Conservation Camp located at 3 Prison Rd in Jean, NV are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
The Jean Conservation Camp is a minimum-custody state prion for about 240 adult female inmates for the State of Nevada. JCC is the only camp within Nevada that houses female inmates and the offenders here work for the Nevada Division of Forestry by fighting fires during the fire season, completing conservation projects, performing highway clean-up for the Department of Transportation, and assisting with the local community.
JCC offers a wide range of programs for female offenders with the opportunity to enroll in educational classes in pursuit of a GED or high school diploma, participate in horticulture classes, parenting classes, and various self-help classes. Jean Conservation Camp also coordinates with the Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) in the training of inmates to work on fire fighting crews during fire season.
NV DOC – Jean Conservation Camp (JCC) – Lifetime of Learning Education Program
Vocational Training – More than 78% of inmates come to prison with minimal job training. Vocational skills are taught to Nevada inmates by the school districts and colleges, prison industries, and the Nevada Division of Forestry. Inmates can learn culinary skills, construction trades, animal science, fire-fighting, auto mechanics and restoration, business and management, equipment repair, HVAC installation and repair, welding, furniture manufacturing, dry cleaning, computer skills and more. Inmates may also get prison jobs as clerks, cooks, janitors, maintenance workers, landscapers, construction crews and other such positions that provide them on-the-job training.
Incentives for Inmates
Nevada law provides incentives for offenders to earn an education while incarcerated; among these incentives is the application of educational credits toward the reduction of sentences. An offender, who earns a certificate, educational or vocational, while behind bars, may qualify to expedite his/her release date.
Reducing Recidivism – When combined with other rehabilitative programs, education is a powerful factor in reducing recidivism. Rigorous study gives offenders the intellectual leverage they need to revise their view of themselves and leave prison better equipped to contribute positively to their families and communities. Education has been the longest running and most successful rehabilitative program in our prison history.
