NV DOC – Lovelock Correctional Center (LCC) basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 775-688-1777
This facility is for adult inmates.
The inmates housed at Lovelock Correctional located at 1200 Prison Rd in Lovelock, NV are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
Lovelock Correctional Center is a mixed custody correctional facility that houses minimum, medium and close custody inmates in Pershing County Nevada. The current capacity of this prison is 1,680 inmates. Offenders at Lovelock Correctional Center can work in the Nevada prison industries manufacturing garments and mattresses. Additionally, inmates can take vocational courses for culinary arts, computers, dry cleaning, horticulture, and automotive repair. Educational courses offered at Lovelock allow inmates to earn a GED and college degrees. Lovelock Correctional Center was home to O.J. Simpson who was found guilty of an incident that involved kidnapping and armed robbery in a Las Vegas hotel room.
NV DOC – Lovelock Correctional Center (LCC) – Lifetime of Learning Education Program
Programs: Vocational Training, Educational Opportunities, and Treatment Services
Lovelock Correctional Center offers a wide range of programs for the inmate population and an opportunity to enroll in educational classes in pursuit of a GED, high school diploma or college degrees. Lovelock’s legislatively approved Structured Living Program (SLP) is one of the most successful. SLP initially started as a 10-week military-style institutional orientation program. With the popularity among inmates, this program quickly expanded to a six-month regimen with opportunities for inmates to earn Merit Credits, attend classes, programs, education, attain jobs and participate in physical fitness training. Lovelock offers vocational training in areas of dry cleaning, culinary food service, computers, horticulture, RESPECT, ServSafe, and automotive maintenance and repair. Lovelock also has its own medical and mental health staff serving the inmate population.
Prison Industries
The 40,000-square-foot Prison Industries building complex is comprised of two buildings, each containing two 10,000-square-foot rooms. Currently, the Garment Factory utilizes one building and the Mattress Factory occupies the other.
Vocational Training
More than 78% of inmates come to prison with minimal job training. Vocational skills are taught to Nevada inmates by the school districts and colleges, prison industries, and the Nevada Division of Forestry. Inmates can learn culinary skills, construction trades, animal science, fire-fighting, auto mechanics and restoration, business and management, equipment repair, HVAC installation and repair, welding, furniture manufacturing, dry cleaning, computer skills and more. Inmates may also get prison jobs as clerks, cooks, janitors, maintenance workers, landscapers, construction crews and other such positions that provide them on-the-job training.
Incentives for Inmates
Nevada law provides incentives for offenders to earn an education while incarcerated; among these incentives is the application of educational credits toward the reduction of sentences. An offender, who earns a certificate, educational or vocational, while behind bars, may qualify to expedite his/her release date.
Reducing Recidivism
When combined with other rehabilitative programs, education is a powerful factor in reducing recidivism. The rigorous study gives offenders the intellectual leverage they need to revise their view of themselves and leave prison better equipped to contribute positively to their families and communities. Education has been the longest-running and most successful rehabilitative program in our prison history.
