NYSDOC – Altona Correctional Facility basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 518-236-7841

This facility is for adult inmates.

The inmates housed at Altona Correctional Facility located at 555 Devils Den Rd in Altona, NY are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

Altona Correctional Facility is a medium security prison in the Town of Alton, in Clinton County New York in the United States.

Altona Correctional Facility was built using the former Altona Central School building as the central administrative and school building. It wasn't uncommon for corrections officers at the time of the prison's opening to have attended the school as children.

Inmates housed at Altone CF can participate in vocational training in custodial and building maintenance, and drafting. This facility also has a group of inmates responsible for waste processing, helping to save thousands of dollars each year by composting and recycling items from the waste of the prison.

Inmates may also receive alcohol and substance abuse treatment. Altona inmates can also enroll in family service programs that teach parental education and give individual and family counseling.
