NYSDOC – Greene Correctional Facility basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 518-731-2741
This facility is for adult inmates.
The inmates housed at Greene Correctional Facility located at 165 Plank Rd in Coxsackie, NY are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
The Greene Correctional Facility is a state prison for men located in Coxsackie, Greene County, New York, owned and operated by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. Green CF opened in 1984 and holds 1600 inmates at medium security, which includes 171 held in a maximum security unit. Greene is adjacent to the state's Coxsackie Correctional Facility, originally built in 1935. Offenders who are difficult to manage are housed in a fifteen-bed special housing unit or in 200-bed isolation unit called S-Block.
Selected inmates at Greene Correctional Facility can work within the Correctional Industries program providing customer service for the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles; to be eligible to participate inmates must have a high school diploma or GED and over one year remaining to parole eligibility. Inmates can also receive vocational training in building and custodial maintenance, horticulture, masonry, printing, small engine repair, painting, computers, commercial arts, HVAC, and electrical systems. This facility also provides alcohol and substance abuse treatment for inmates.
While incarcerated offenders are encouraged to take educational courses to earn an adult basic education or GED. Inmates can also take additional college courses offered from the nearby Siena College and earn credits towards a Bachelor's Degree.
