NYSDOC – Groveland Correctional Facility basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 585-658-2871

This facility is for adult inmates.

The inmates housed at Groveland Correctional Facility located at 7000 Sonyea Rd in Sonyea, NY are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

Groveland Correctional Facility is a medium security prison located in the Town of Groveland in Livingston County, New York, in the US. The facility is located next to the community of Sonyea in Groveland on the site of a former Shaker community. The town is south of Rochester, Monroe County, New York, near Interstate 390.

The prison is divided into 2 parts, upper and lower, with a fence and sally port to restrict movement between the two. Dorms C-J, the prison hospital and food service are on the upper. Dorms K and L, as well as the commissary, school, church and recreation yards, are on the lower. The recreation yards feature 3 softball diamonds, a weight yard, and horseshoe pits.

In the past, female prisoners were held at Groveland, but it is currently a male facility with a working capacity of 1106.

Groveland Correctional Facility is regarded as a calm facility that offers the inmates a great deal of freedom of movement. Additionally, this facility offers inmates many vocational courses including building and custodial maintenance, computer technologies, flooring, plumbing and heating, welding, printing, horticulture, business, electrical, and small engine repair. Special counseling is available for incarcerated veterans.
