NYSDOC – Mohawk Correctional Facility basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 315-339-5232
This facility is for adult inmates.
The inmates housed at Mohawk Correctional Facility located at 6514 Route 26 in Rome, NY are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
Mohawk Correctional Facility is a state prison for men in Rome, Oneida County, New York, owned and operated by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. The facility is classified as medium security but also has a maximum security unit and a special housing unit. Mohawk normally houses about 1200 inmates and first opened in 1988.
This facility is responsible for a 112-bed maximum security nursing facility known as the Walsh Regional Medical Unit (RMU for short). The RMU is responsible for treating inmates from surrounding New York Department of Correctional Facilities.
Mohawk CF inmates can receive vocational training in business, electrical, building/custodial maintenance, flooring applications, plumbing and heating, small engine repair, painting, horticulture, and masonry. Inmates will also be required to take GED courses if they do not possess a diploma. Inmates who have a GED or diploma already can earn an Associate's degree through Mohawk Valley Community College. Offenders who have been convicted of a sex crime will be required to participate in a sex offender counseling and treatment program. Substance and alcohol abuse treatment is also offered to inmates with addictions.
