NYSDOC – Moriah Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 518-942-7561

This facility is for adult inmates.

The inmates housed at Moriah Shock Incarceration located at 75 Burhart Ln
in Mineville, NY are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

Moriah Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility is a minimum security New York State prison, located in Mineville, Town of Moriah, Essex County, New York, in a remote part of the Adirondack Mountains. The facility — established in former mine buildings — is home to SHOCK and intensive ASAT programs. It usually houses about 300 inmates.

SHOCK Incarceration facilities are based on a boot-camp-like program that implements a strict regiment of intensive high-custody incarceration, meant to shock the inmate by altering their behavior with the desired result being major life changes. Usually, the program is an alternative to normal incarceration for non-violent offenders and reduces the inmate's sentence to a much shorter term.

Moriah Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility considers the programming to be "life's vocational training" and doesn't offer other programs that would interfere with the short term they are held. However, literacy programs are available to help inmates learn to read, and offenders can also receive substance abuse treatment services.
