NYSDOC – Otisville Correctional Facility basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 845-386-1490

This facility is for adult inmates.

The inmates housed at Otisville Correctional Facility located at 57 Sanitorium Rd
in Otisville, NY are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

Otisville Correctional Facility is a medium-security state prison located in Orange County, New York, United States. It is located adjacent to the federal system prison (Federal Correctional Institution, Otisville), but each facility operates separately from the other and they are otherwise unrelated. Both are in the Town of Mount Hope. The facility is secured by razor wire fencing and armed horse-mounted guards.

The site was used as a tuberculosis sanitarium (1906–1955), a Division of Youth facility (Otisville Training Facility, up to 1972), and briefly a drug treatment center, before it became a state prison. A sawmill for lumber and maple syrup production were soon introduced for prisoner work. Due to the length of the prison fence and rough terrain, exterior guards are mounted on horses.

One of the more unique programs at this facility is the puppies behind bars program, which allows inmates to work training dogs. Inmates can earn a GED while incarcerated and private funding has made it possible for inmates to take college courses through John Jay College. Additional programs offer inmates substance and alcohol abuse treatment, and life/problem-solving skills can be obtained through the Compadre Helper Program. Additionally, there is vocational training is offered in small engine repair, horticulture, building maintenance, and masonry.

Notable Inmates – Mike " the Situation" Sorrentino MTV's hit reality show "Jersey Shore" star is currently serving his prison sentence for tax evasion.
