NYSDOC – Washington Correctional Facility basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 518-639-4486

This facility is for adult inmates.

The inmates housed at Washington Correctional Facility located at 72 Lock Eleven Ln in Comstock, NY are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

Washington Correctional Facility is a medium-security correctional facility that is located in Comstock, in the Town of Fort Ann in Washington County, NY. It is designated for the confinement of males age 18 and older. The facility offers volunteer and counseling services, and educational and vocational programs. As of 2010 Washington had a working capacity of 882.

Notable Inmate – Michael Alig, convicted of the manslaughter of Angel Melendez on October 24, 1997.

This prison participates in the Correctional Industries program and allows select inmates to work in metal furniture manufacturing. Inmates at this facility also work in a regional recycling plant and help reduce facility waste by composting biodegradable items.

While incarcerated at Washington Correctional Facility inmates can receive substance abuse treatment, and participate in vocational activities. Vocational training is available in electrical trades, horticulture, small engine repair, welding, HVAC, building and custodial maintenance, and computers.
