NYSDOC – Woodbourne Correctional Facility basic information to help guide you through what you can do for your inmate while they are incarcerated. The facility's direct contact number: 845-434-7730
This facility is for adult inmates.
The inmates housed at Woodbourne Correctional Facility located at 99 Prison Rd in Woodbourne, NY are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.
Woodbourne Correctional Facility is a medium security men's prison operated by the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision in Woodbourne, New York of Sullivan County. It is located on the same tract of land as maximum security Sullivan Correctional Facility.
The current capacity of Woodbourne Correctional is 850 male inmates. This facility has both open dormitories and cell blocks. This facility also acts as a transition center for inmates who were previously housed in maximum security institutions and have since been stepped down to a medium security level.
Inmates can earn a GED, and can even receive an Associate's Degree through the Bard Prison Initiative. Other programs are available for inmates to learn new skills in culinary arts, custodial maintenance, HVAC, printing, and welding. Substance abuse treatment is also available for inmates who suffer from addiction. Offenders who are incarcerated for sex-based crimes will need to attend a sex offender counseling and treatment program.
Notable inmates
- Juvenile murderer Willie Bosket, serving three consecutive sentences of 25 years to life for offenses committed while in the Shawangunk Correctional Facility and at Woodbourne. Bosket was housed in a specially-constructed plexiglass-lined cell in complete isolation but is no longer at Woodbourne.
- Rapper Shyne of New York City served a 10-year sentence in The Woodbourne Facility after being convicted of first-degree assault and reckless endangerment
- The Sopranos actor Tony Sirico best known for his role as Paul "Paulie Walnuts" Gualtieri – Before turning to acting, he was convicted of several crimes and had been arrested 28 times. In 1967, he was sent to prison for robbing a Brooklyn after-hours club but was released after serving 13 months. In 1971, he pleaded guilty to felony weapons possession and was sentenced to an "indeterminate" prison term of up to four years, of which he ended up serving 20 months.
