The inmates housed at Dayton CI located at 4104 Germantown St
in Dayton, OH are placed according to their custody level (determined by a number of factors including the past criminal history and the length of their sentence). There are ample educational and vocational training programs for all inmates, especially ones that show a willingness to learn new things that will prepare them for a better life when they are released. The mission is to promote and prepare the offender to leave in better shape than when they arrived, giving them the best chance to never come back and thus lower the state's recidivism rate.

The Dayton Correctional Institution is a state prison for women located in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio, opened in 1987, owned and operated by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. Dayton Correctional Institution holds a maximum of 938 female inmates at various security levels. The facility is a mixed custody prison that houses minimum, medium, close custody, and maximum security inmates.

This facility places a strong emphasis on preparing inmates for release through re-entry programs. Re-entry programs teach inmates the skills they will need for job interviews, resume writing, and re-establishing themselves in society. Academic courses teach adult basic education and provide inmate courses and testing to earn a GED.

Dayton Correctional Institution has an adoptable dog program that allows inmates to work training and preparing abandoned dogs for adoption. Vocational training in plumbing, landscaping, animal training, tailoring, food production, and HVAC teach the inmate a new skill they can use for employment once they are released.

Various religious worship services and biblical studies are made available through the Chaplain's office.

Release Preparation and Reentry Programs

Release preparation and reentry programs assist our Offenders for successful reentry into the community: DCI has created an environment in the Reintegration Unit which stimulates personal change, by initiating the development and implementation of teaching, training, and programming focused on transformative best practices, combined with connections to needed community resources. The Community Service Workshop is comprised of a holistic reentry continuum of care strategy; developed and maintained to give our offenders the opportunity to serve and support the Dayton Community through partnerships with several shelters, schools and community organizations. Both initiatives provide our offenders with best practices programs and processes, as well as community resource needs, based on their individualized Personal Transformation Plan. The reporting systems to monitor measurable goals and outcomes of the Reintegration Unit and Community Service Workshop helps the Offenders reach their Transformation Plan and assist them to become contributing members of society, while reducing recidivism.

visitation Info

ODRC – Dayton Correctional Institution – Visitation

Visiting

Visitation is available Wednesday through Sunday with sessions from 12:30 pm – 3:30 pm (must arrive by 2 pm) and 4:30 pm – 7:30 pm (must arrive by 6 pm). First-time visitors must complete an orientation session which begins promptly at 12 pm for the first session and 4 pm for the second session. Please have documents ready for visitation (custody paperwork, birth certificate, authorization of minor child form, etc.) or the visitor will not be permitted entrance into visitation.

Reservations:

Reservations are required at least seven days prior to the visit and up to 30 days in advance. Any cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance or the visit will be counted as a visit for the month.

DCI-Specific Visiting Information:

Visitors will be allowed to bring in $50 on their visit. Vending machines only accept $5, $1, quarters, dimes and nickles. Be advised that officers in visitation do not have change, so bring the necessary funds. In case of money lost in vending machines, contact AVI at 937-878-8727. Visitors only need to bring necessary money, minor paperwork and current government issued identification (driver's license, state ID, military or Passport). All other items need to be left in vehicle or lockers located in the Entry Building (cell phones, electronics, excess money or items not approved to be in the institution).

Dayton Correctional Institution maintains video visiting kiosks in every general population housing unit. The hours of availability for video visits are as follows: 8:00 AM – 10:00AM; 12:30PM – 3:00PM; and 5:30PM – 8:30PM.  Visits are 30 minutes in duration; however, an additional 30 minutes can be requested if there is no one scheduled at the same kiosk immediately after the conclusion of the initial video visit.

An approved visitor is defined as: a visitor that submitted an application for visitation, processing has been completed, and approval by institutional staff may request a video visit.   Approved visitors must create an account and  register with JPay. When family members register to have a video visit, they are prompted  by  JPay through a series of steps to achieve their visit. Video visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance of the time that they are requesting.
